Happy birthday, Mr. Putin

Today is the 61st birthday of Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is okay to mention this date if you're communicating with your lady. Unless you know that she is a member of the opposition movement, I wouldn't disparage her leader at any rate. Many Russians are pleased that he is in charge and proud that he may be considered for the Nobel Peace Prize.

We have more information on this in the culture section, including the Olympic torch lighting that went out during yesterday's ceremonial lighting on Red Square.
