The article didn't expound on that at all. I'd be interested to know where and what the half million slaves are in Russia. 500,000 is quite a number and would seemingly be difficult to hide and, why would a democracy in the supposed "free world" permit 500,000 slaves

I have no intent to look in to the calculations, but I guess that they count all workers in the prostitution industry as slave.
And perhaps for Russia they add the people in detention camps, after all they are all innocent and slaves of Putins

Man, 30 million!

Based on our current situation in California, easy 20 million of that number are allegedly Californian (working for someone else's benefit). Base on the growing government-dependent folks, the 'masters' in the US is now the majority (living large under someone else's servitude).


 


But seriously, 30 million is barely over 1% of the global population. Heck it's hardly over 10% of Indonesia's population. And those guys live on an island strain surrounded by the world's most active volcanoes. Literally, one geological hiccup can wipe out the entire race, or 25% of all the global Muslims.

Russia leases space for work prisons to other countries such as North Korea but there aren't, at least to my knowledge, half a million in those prison camps.





This next series is excellent! Journalists Simon Ostrovsky and Shane Smith travel from North Korea to the slave camps in Russia. Sad at the core but funny at how they travel and how they question the North Korean guards and administrators.

That does shine some light on my curiosity. It would appear that Russia continues to contribute to NK albeit in a paltry kind of way. The fact NK actually sets up timber operations in Russia for hard currency is astounding to me. For a country like NK, it's like wading in a fountain for pennies. That Russia would allow the NK dictatorship to operate in sovereign Russia land is also astounding. I never knew

 The links i found say they are not prison camps since 70s and as bad and inhumane conditions are tne Koreans are fighting to get the job partly because its better than in nk partly because they can run and get asylum. Really no principal difference from foreign cheap labour gangs anywhere,  harsher weather and harsher rules but seems they want to work there....
