Transferred to Kiev Embassy
« on: October 21, 2013, 09:09:39 AM »
I have good news.  I called the Department of State.  They have received my petition and they have assigned my fiancé and me a Case Number  (KEV2013XXXXXX).  According to the attendant, the Embassy will send her a packet.  I asked my fiancé to call the Medical Clinic and give them our Case Number.  I provided her documents that provide proof that I have money to support her.  Light at the end of the tunnel . . .  :D

Thank you both.

I am going through some jitters myself.  I am wrestling with my own self doubt and realize that I am out of a limb.  My lady is a wonderful woman, but there is always the unexpected and I have learned to have a healthy distrust of my own perception.  That said, I AM ALL IN!!!!

Thanks fellahs.  Last time I posted I had to ask the mods to delete personal info that I neglected to redact.  Luckily Lonedrake hooked me up.

Thank you Jay.  There are a lot of smart people on this forum.  I am glad you recommended it to me.  I have had many positive exchanges and learned from people of all stripes (politics and religion).

My future Mrs is learning how to drive a car.  Today was supposed to be her first practical exercise.  And she was scared.  I just told her to make it fun, be confident and enjoy the lesson.  She is a great lady Jay.  God has been good to me because I don't deserve a nice lady like her.

Not just your advice that LT did not take. :)
I have mentioned here in the last few days that you do clearly have expertise in US immigration issues-the problem is that your vitriolic comments destroys any trust in you. That said--I have seen you persist in trying to help long after that trust has disappeared--but--you can hardly blame anyone else for ignoring you. :)

Congrats!!! We're currently waiting for a case number from NVC, however it may be a long wait our petition was just approved last week. It's taking around 5 weeks average from California Service Center now.

If he is happy about taking twelve months to complete a process that others have been doing in three or four (lately), then I'm happy for him.

Congratulations, LT!

[Edit] to add:

p.s.

Calling the medical clinic to make an appointment, prior to receiving the visa appointment letter, is pointless because you need the following for the medical exam:

1) the visa appointment letter (DUH!)
2) international passport
3) 3X4 cm photo
4) vaccination records
5) fee for the exam

I'm sure that everyone knows this and just didn't get around to tellin' him, not that he pays attention anyway.

Whoa! I'm shocked! The TomT I know had always been a witty, reserved bloke and always had a dry sense of humor laced in his posts...

I digress.

What I'm curious about is, who, how much, and why would LT invest monies to someone to file his K-1 when he have people who can apparently help him with his filing (?). Besides, isn't everyone aware of  Visa Journey by now?

LT-

Congratulations! I do hope you at least had done some of the *prep* work vital for your gal's eventual arrival...

btw, its fiancee. I know you live in California but that is maybe taking it to the extreme at this time. It sounds creepy, man.

You need to provide more than just an affidavit of support to send to her.

Tell me about it; I went through all of this with him last December.

Not to worry, the USCIS doesn't support same-sex K-1 petitions... yet.

You do realize that many others...including the normal people just doing there jobs at the USCIS....have been helping you "hook up". Also on this list is Tom T.

That said....you do entertain :) I suspect it is intentional 8)

Grats! There is a website you can type your case number in to learn the status of your petition. It's probably a lot faster than waiting to speak to a live person at any government agency.

Thank you Brother.  I want to recognize that your encouragement after I suffered a pretty serious disappointment at the time.  You told me to get my head back in the game and keep my foot moving and I got this far.  Thank YOU!

Betsy had her first time behind the wheel.  Overcoming her fear and after many motorists honking their horns, she said she liked it.  This is what I found out about foreign drivers:

Quote
Short-Term Visitors

If you plan to drive when you visit the United States, check the driving rules in the state(s) you'll be visiting to verify that you can use your non-U.S. driver's license. You should get an International Driving Permit (IDP), which translates the information contained on your official driver's license into 10 languages.

The United States does not issue International Driving Permits to foreign visitors, so you will need to obtain this document in your home country before you travel to the United States.

Students

If you are a foreign student coming to the United States to study, you should contact the university or college you'll be attending for information about driving.

Residents (Non-U.S. Citizens)

The residency requirement for obtaining a U.S. driver's license is different in each state. Check the department of motor vehicles in the state where you live to see the requirements.

If you are eligible to apply for a driver's license, you can only get a driver's license from the state where you live. Check with your state's department of motor vehicles to find out how to apply.

Once you receive your U.S. driver's license from a state motor vehicle department, you can drive in all U.S. states. Remember that the driving laws in each state differ and it is your responsibility to know and obey the laws of the state where you are driving.

California
Quote
Driver's Licenses

If you are temporarily visiting California, you can use your out-of-state or foreign driver's license for as long as it's valid where it was issued — you don't need to register with the DMV or do anything beyond making sure your license is valid and current. In most cases, (e.g. Western European countries, Australia, most of SE. Asia, etc.) foreigners do not really need one of those additional paper International Driver's License as well, but if your license looks exotic, it would probably help to have one just in case (this is the license issued by the relevant Automobile Association or Government body in your country that certifies in several languages that you have a license in your own country. You must also have your normal license with you if you use the International License).

If you intend working here, or establishing a long-term residence here, then technically you must get a California driver's license after ten days' residence. Drivers with valid licenses from other U.S. States and Canada usually need only pass a written road rules test and hand in their old license. Drivers from foreign countries normally have to take a full driving and road rules test; the old (foreign) license is then either endorsed as not valid for California, or, since everything is now computerized, it is given back to you untouched (but if you try to use it the DMV and police computers will flag it as invalid for use in California).

Actually getting your license is not that difficult, even with the tests. The road rules tests are fairly simple multiple choice, with only a few tricky ones; the road test itself is harder, but usually pretty fair. Most people pass on their first or second attempts; the driving tests do not have any tricks, but you will probably fail for silly reasons like forgetting to stop at the first white line near the stop sign, etc. (the sort of thing everyone does in real life all the time). Despite the crowds and lines at DMV offices, the test procedures do not take long, and it is possible (in many cases nowadays mandatory) to book a test place a week or so in advance so that there's minimal waiting around.

Nevada

Quote
If you are visiting Nevada but already possess a drivers license issued by another country, you may drive until your license expires or you acquire Nevada resident status. Please note that the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles does not issue licenses or identification cards to exchange students or tourists. Other non-US citizens may be eligible for a Nevada license depending on the applicant's immigration status. You must contact your nearest DMV office to find out if you are eligible for a license. Have the status code issued by the U.S. Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services on hand as you will be required to provide it during your conversation with a DMV customer assistance representative.

If you are found eligible for Nevada drivers license, you will have to take a written examination, a vision test, and an on-road test before you can be issued a license. The written test covers general traffic regulations and road signs and may include state-specific questions

I don't know what the hell is the matter with you people. The original post made it abundantly clear that LT has no clue about what he's doing and GQ the only one who made a comment to that effect. On the other hand, a wack-job blew some smoke up his voluminous butt and there was a plethora of hollow congratulations, as if that is going to be curative.
