Meeting in the Caribbean
« on: October 21, 2013, 05:20:43 PM »
Are there any "go to" spots where Ukraine citizens don't need a visa or can get one easily? Like in the Caribbean?

Spare me the lecture on giving the girl a free vacation. Just assume I know what I'm doing.

Also, any info on how difficult or time-consuming it is to get a transit visa for a connecting flight in the US, for a Ukrainian?

I think Turkey is the "go to spot" for meeting.

Seems the Dominican Republic is a destination of choice.  I have no personal experience with DR but there are several members here who have.

Yep....Punta Cana, very nice, plenty of hotels. Visas are obtained at airport but girl must her hotels and flights booked( I think in her name). Also, flights must not connect in US for girl. CDG is good connection, there are others in Europa!!!

That's hard to do when you're the one asking questions. Someone once listed countries Ukrainians can travel to without visas. You might find that thread using the search engine here. I can't remember how old the info is not so keep in mind, countries change policy towards each other. As Daveman said, DR is a place a few members took their ladies.

This link will help. She will also know more from her travel agent. Why not take her to Thailand? It's a cheap flight for her, visa free, and she can fly direct. having her fly to the Caribbean will result in a connecting flight, possible transit visa, and some jet lag.
Her going to Thailand will be an easier flight, you however will not have an easy time getting there, but it'll be worth it!  Personally I think its a great idea to haul the girl out of her surroundings, and place her where the comforts of home are not at the ready. You'll learn about her, and have fun too!

Why not take her to Thailand?

Because кто девушку ужинает, то её и танцует.   ;)   And for an American it is easier to go to Caribbean even if it means that girl has to jump through few hoops to get there.

Sharm-Al-Sheikh in Egypt.
As long as you stay in the resort there is no trouble, giving you a good excuse NOT to go anywhere

Thailand is a brilliant suggestion. Takes care of the US transit visa problem, better/cheaper flight for her and they have an incredible number of beautiful islands to stay on. Prices are probably better than the Caribbean too. And since I'm on the US west coast, almost easier for me as well.

You need to do a lot of investigating Chip, unless you fly into Bankok, it is longer, more expensive and 1-2 stops( Phuket) for your girl plus looking into needing transit visa in every stop. Plus, from west coast, it is at least 16 hours for you and close to 20 hour trip!!!! That Pacific is very, very big!!!

Aeroflot flies non-stop Moscow-Phuket.

Also Air Astana flies Almaty - Bangkok several times a week. Ukrainians don't need visas for Kazakhstan. Can meet in BKK (spend a few days sightseeing before heading to a resort).

I've done it twice Chip. She went from Tashkent UZ, it was a 6h direct flight to Bangkok. I'm in Canada and on my last series of flights I booked through a Star Alliance partner, they sent me on a complete circle of the planet. Ah well, the flight was cheap.  You hopefully would fly to Bangkok direct from Los Angels , then hope a domestic to some beautiful island. One thing to note, most Caribbean resorts offer the EP (European plan) or the AI (all inclusive). Thailand did offer the EP at one of the resorts I stayed at, but never saw the AL plan at any of the places, so its something to think about.
I would seriously put her feelings first for this trip, you'll be paying for it, and do you really want a bagged out babe suffering jetlag for a week? It's better that you deal with it. What I did when I went there was we'd meet up in Bangkok, and spend a day or two there before heading off to one of the exotic islands. Depending on when you go , there is a rainy season to consider.  One last thing I'll leave you with is something Confucius once said. " Man who go through airport door sideways, is going to Bangkok."  ;D

I met my wife in Dominican two winters ago. She flew from Kiev to Paris straight to Dominican. If your lady is from Russia there are direct flights from Moscow. All she needed to do was pay 10 dollars for her visa when she arrived there. Lots of Russians were there and they even had Russian tour guides there and the menus, signs, etc at the resorts had Russian written on them as well as English and Spanish

I think the reason behind AI is that Westerners are scared to venture outside of resorts in most of those Caribbean destinations.    ;D    No such precautions are needed in SE Asia, because it is the safest place in the world for travelers.   8)

Bali (Indonesia), Turkey, Egypt, and Dominican Republic you can find direct flights from Russia and Ukraine on travel charters.  That will help your lady travel.  Now Bali usually has a stop in Singapore then to Bali.  But Singapore airport is just a couple hours.
But there are other places in South America, Europe, South East Asia, and Africa RW can travel easily to.

thailand is as good  ;D , english language used there , so probs for you ,
as posted already , safe , good value , nice food on offer , lots of russians do go there , even in wet , the temperature/weather is good ,
lots of quality hotels with easy close access to beaches as well as most have large pools etc , value shopping

you also get to choose some beautiful islands to look at if you wish to do a day trip or overnighter , usually a slow boat trip with local food , swim , sunbake , crab eater monkeys , kayak trips ,

couple of things , thailand has heavy penaltys for drugs , so watch your bags ,luggage etc ..& local took took [taxis ] are hell to deal with lol

it would be my first choice though  ;)

I don't think there is one.   Best deal is on Korean Air with 1 stop in Seul.

As much as I love Thailand it is a pain in the posterior to get there from US.  Plus 12-15 hour jet leg.    So I wouldn't suggest it for a short get together, better off find something more approachable for both parties.
