Men from the UK wanted for an exciting new documentary!

Are you looking for love abroad and currently using international dating and introduction services to help with your search?

Maybe you're planning to take a romance tour to Russia or Eastern Europe between December 2013 and January 2014?

Perhaps you've met 'the one' and are now in the process of arranging your first trip to see her?

Or if you've already met, maybe you're hoping to marry and bring her home to the UK.

As part of a one-off documentary for the Discovery Network, Knickerbockerglory - an independent television production company - want to follow British men on their search for love abroad.

We'd like to provide a genuine and faithful insight into the ups and downs of cross cultural dating and the international agencies that broker these marriages.

Please contact enquiries@knickerbockerglory.tv or call 020 8740 6300 for more information.

Isn't this about the third incarnation of such a documentary in not much more than a year?

There is a pilot trying to get approved into a series of Amercian men visiting areas of Russia for marriage.  Will be shown in FSU.   If you can understand Russian, you can find in on the internet.  It's very funny and of course they only show idiot men.

Hi All,
Many years ago - I saw a couple of these on TV here in the USA…  - Very Interesting - as I had already made a few trips to Russia.

Would I participate??  No way in Hell! ;-)  One earlier comment about 'idiot men' is very apropos to what I saw… and now - Discovery channel - documentary??  Ummm… not only NO… but Hell No!…

First, I would ask the gentleman participating…  If you're serious about this - show some empathy… and try to put yourself in the lady's shoes…  If she's genuine - and you show up - with a TV film crew in tow… and an interpreter asking her all kinds of questions about what she's doing - why she's there…. Yada…. Yada…. Yada… -

Just how 'serious' is she going to believe you are….  ??  LOL… I can picture if I showed up in Yoshkar-Ola - and a Russian TV station showed up - filming me and asking about what I was doing - wanting to accompany us here and there…  and if you've watched any of these things - they PROMOTE 'DRAMA' (problems)!!!!  If there is NO drama - I figure your 'tape' will be on the cutting room floor ;-)

When you've made a few trips - you'll understand better…  I personally only let a few of my closest friends know what I'm doing…  Others,,,  "Carl, why in the Hell are you traveling to Russia to meet a lady?!?!" - and no matter what your answer is - You ARE WRONG! (an idiot)… - and if you do not meet success on your first trip (the likelihood of that is like considering the possibility of finding a 'snowball in Hell' ) - many will be very smug… ;-)

For the lady - it is MUCH the same.  She's crawling WAY OUT on a limb… and to make it even more public??  Ummm… what would that make me look like?  LOL… I don't think it would make me look like a considerate, caring partner… that the lady would want to keep around! ;-)  How many of us (men) have heard what is said in a 'hen party'??  From what I've heard - the crudity of men in a group… pales in comparison to what women might say about each other.

If you want your "5 minutes of fame" - go ahead…  for myself… I like to try and imagine what perception the other party will perceive about my actions… - What's that old saying… "Before you judge… walk a mile in their shoes!"…

Sorry if my views are unusual…   Just my $0.02…

I do not think so, Carl. You are entitled to your opinion as we all are.

These documentaries simply highlight the splendor of International Dating/Marriages. There are thousands of such marriages to these delightful beings we all call 'FSUWs'.

However, I do not agree that these types of courtships should be kept under wrap. I believe now is the perfect time to let the world understand how every lucky we (men) are for the opportunity and privilege to date and marry these traditional women of the Former Soviet Union.

Good luck on your pending trip Carl. I am happily married for over 8 years now to a Russian woman myself. Everything they have ever said about these divine women are all on target. I do not believe I have ever missed a hot dinner since we got married. They really are nothing like the fat AWs at home. I realize they aren't all fat, but the majority of them are. Those that are not, are mostly caught up on the feminism trend. It feels incredibly good to know we have another option.

We are here to give you feedback if you ever have any question. So, please, be one of us.

I watched the Journeyman TV one.  It was skewed heavily against most of the men.

Please do it like the one Lisa Ling did for her Our America show.  That one was fantastic.  It documented both sides and it was really fair.

That must've been just a bad day. Or maybe influenced by domestic competition to give those men involved in the MOB, specifically the ones in the eastern Europe/South America circuit, a bad rap. That's an outrage if so because it is so far from the truth.

The men of the FSU/South America MOB are world class romeos as far as I'm concern. I love these guys, man!

They be bad...

Hi All,
I was watching TV last night - and saw some advertisements for something that seems like it is about K-1s…

The title had 90 days… and fiancé and/or marriage in it…  Supposed to be a 'new' show/series in the coming weeks…  I'll be interested in the portrayal… and what the bias/'slant' the program has…

I have a rather 'low' opinion of most of these programs - as I think it will be much like the new series that they are advertising hosted by Jerry Stringer…. ;-)  If there isn't lots of 'drama' - I don't think whatever is taped is shown…

Yes - if anyone detects some cynicism in my comments - I'll validate that the cynicism IS there. ;-)  My reason is - the media, in my perspective - sensationalizes EVERYTHING…  From reading the comments of many on the board here - that there are success stories and 'happy endings'… - however, when I've seen any of these so called documentaries/reality things - they only show *disasters*/drama… - the more the better. ;-)

Yeah I don't know why everything having to do with a American (or British) guy marrying a Russian women, the man is always a class A loser and the woman is always an overly made up and dressed bimbo with zero personality or interesting attributes.  Have you seen the movie "Russian Bride"?  Perfect example.  I know that the percentage of loserish guys going to Russia to meet up with women probably is high, but I think that the immigration process weeds out a lot of the true losers and ones that just can't get laid here.  I'm sure they go over there, get laid, think they will get married, but when they come home and realize how difficult it is they go back to their previous lives.  Although what do I know???  I've only actually ever met 2 other guys that tried the FSU thing, one successful (if you want to call it that, he's been married for 20+ years to someone who barely speaks any English) one not, and both of these guys were the most painfully awkward, social outcasts that you could ever imagine.  So maybe these shows are a true representation of reality?

Seems everyone is doing these now.   Last night I saw a TV show about 3 couples and the women came to the US on K-1 visas.  I believe one woman was from Brazil, one from Russia, and one from Columbia.  I think it was on one of the discovery channels.   It appears to be multi-episode show, so will have to watch for the next installments.

From what I saw last night, the show was well done and more of an honest documentary rather than some hyped entertainment.

Edit....
The program is called 90 Day Fiance and it is on The Learning Channel (TLC)

But what bothers me is why this is even documentary worthy.  I guess in this day and age people are so bored with their lives they will watch anything that deviates from the norm, but come on, they are treating it like it's a sideshow act.  I think at this point people get why we look for love abroad, it's not just because we hate American women or are complete douches and can't meet anyone here and have to "buy" a wife.  But from the shows I've seen they almost want to paint the picture that it IS that way.  I guess they have to make it interesting somehow, and showing normal people who meet each other online and just happen to be separated by an ocean, and take steps to be together would not make for ratings, but showing a dork traveling overseas for the first time in his life to meet some hot broad that is much younger and speaks very little English gets people talking.  Unfortunately it also makes people think we all must be that dork they see on TV, that we are doing this for reasons that are so far from reality

I think you are missing the point.  A lot of uneducated men exactly fit these profiles.  The image of the MOB and buying a bride is a common perception among a large part of the populous.  Just put a postal stamp on their forehead and send her to the USA.  LOL

I have not made any opinions based on only the first show, but if you are less critical you will notice many of the same things in the show that are real life experiences such as mamas reluctance to accept a foreign bride for her son.   Best to wait and see how it plays out to make judgements!

Making predictions about couples love for each other and what the outcome will be is somewhat sinister.  Some couples I have known were in my mind the most unlikely couples to last 5 minutes in a marriage.  Some 40-50 years later, they are still happly married.

What is annoying to me, is the skeptics that know it all, and have strong opinions about what other people should do with their lives!

Try doing a forum search on documentary there are 8 pages of links
Who wants to bend over for some camera?

Generally, I have to agree with you.  It's unfortunate the many of the previous shows accentuate the negative aspects of  seeking a FSUW for a bride.   It would be nice to see some that show the success stories as well.

Let me add another point that I have not made previously..... My trips to Ukraine, I met many couples that had never heard of RUA or RWD and on their own had navigated the landmines and found love that ended in happy marriages.   We seem to think that people are so stupid  they cannot figure this adventure out for themselves.  This is patently stupid IMO.  The forum is a great place for a newbie to learn the basics and possibly increase his odds of not falling for a scam.  Beyond that, it is common sense and chemistry that will dictate his success/failure.

I hope that with the new rules/format that Dave has championed, more  members will post their trip reports and not have to worry about being attacked for their choices/decisions.  Current, on the ground reports about real life experiences are worth a lot more to new members than us old farts that have been around the block many years ago.

Another point..... The old farts that have been married for many years can also add a lot to the forum.  Not how to date the latest, hot godiva, but rather how you integrate into family life after the marriage.  There seems to be very little info about this phase of the FSU adventure on the forums.

Once a man has landed his beloved treasure, how do you make her feel welcome in her new country?  How does she find a job (if desired)?  How do other people treat her?  How can the husband make it the most comfortable possible for her to feel wanted and welcomed?

I noticed that there are a few exceptions.  Turbo for example, occasionally emits a few gems but they are far a few between.  Once the task of capturing (LOL) your new beloved bride is accomplished, what are all the steps you need to take to make her feel comfortable in her new home?

The older members could have a lot to contribute in this area.  Let this be an invitation from one member to solicit your experiences and those of your wives to let us know what is most important to them and what obstacles are yet to be overcome to a long lasting and fulfilling marriage.

If it is appropriate, the moderators should feel free to spin this off to another topic.

Good post again!! The guys who did all this years ago have a very important part to play on the forums-- but not in  a superior air that some seek to impose. . Guys who searched years ago-- have  had a different experience to those in the process now-- so should not be taking such a negative view of newcomers.Things change--it is simply how it is.
Doug's point about those established guys have a lot to add--is a very good one. The learning for those on the path can be enhanced with the established wisdom-- and I do not mean by reaching a ridiculous conclusion about newbies.
BTW Doug--it is not about age- it is about the timing of the search and experiences-- and right now you are  really in the process.
