recommended florists to send flowers
« on: November 22, 2013, 06:41:07 AM »
So the lady in Zaporozhye who I am visiting next week was at a friend's home and the friend got flowers from some foreign guy who she been corresponding with only for a week. I have been corresponding with the lady I am going to see for over a month now. Naturally I got a long letter asking how I feel about gifts. So I think I am in the doghouse for not sending her flowers too.  :)  No matter that I have a whole suitcase of gifts packed to bring with me. I have not sent flowers.

Anyway I would like any recommendations others here have about florists they have used to send flowers to a lady in the Ukraine, in particular in Zaporozhye.

I have found a site called flowers.com.ua which I assume is just a web service that then has some local florist make the actual delivery. Has anyone here used this web site to send flowers to someone in Ukraine?

Thats pretty convenient she was at a friends house the other day and discussing this:) I wonder what will be discussed next at her friends, maybe her friend will have $1000 sent to her from that guy after just a week? Thats when you need to worry about being in the "Dog house"

Jensen, if such really happened, which I doubt, a normal gal would hesitate to mention it. This is basically a gal wanting to know how often you plan to shell out money.

Tell her that 8 March is a long time off.

I agree with the others here. Unless you've missed an occasion, an important one, she is fishing and it isn't for flowers.

A birthday, March 8th, Christmas or NY's would be important dates. If you haven't missed those, you have a flag for discovery. Where and how did you meet up with this woman?

Naturally I got a long letter asking how I feel about gifts.

Make sure you tell her you love receiving gifts. How much it means to you and how she can show her love to you by giving you as many gifts as possible. Make sure to tell her your love is for sale and the woman who gives you the best gifts is the one you may choose. The more expensive the gifts the happier you will be!! :welcome:

Actually, this "remarkable coincidence" is a fabulous opportunity to talk about just that -- gifts...

I suggest to have that conversation with her.  Unless you are the type to shower people around you with gifts (i do exactly that - when I feel like it...) then it would be good to tell her exactly what you think about it.

Something like "I sometimes give gifts to those I care about, and of course I enjoy receiving them as well. However, relations should be based on a man and a woman as each other's treasure and material gifts, while fun to give and receive sometimes, are not a measure of love between a man and woman."

She may indeed be fishing for money, and maybe not.  Depends on what she wrote in her letter to you.  If you feel that you are "in the doghouse" because of what she wrote in her letter about your lack of gift giving, then you most likely have some problems.

The ladies here have mentioned one of the main thread topics on the women's versions of this forum is "how do I get more money from my husband", etc. .  Interesting, huh?  Wonder who those women were before they got married? Probably started out similarly to the lady with whom you are communicating now.

Now, all of that being said.. if you are old and ugly, and she's young and hot.. then yeah, better send her gifts - that's the cost of doing business...

The mechanisms for squeezing money out of foreign men are very well lubricated in Ukraine. (Hmm, I am sounding like Tom here.) There are many places in Ukraine where, you will send flowers, a photo will be taken, and the lady and the flower shop will split the difference on what you paid for the flowers.

I actually have a friend in the Atlanta Georgia who is married to a woman from Tomsk and he says quite a few of the arguments they had early on were simple misunderstandings about what the other one was trying to say. He said often times they were both saying the same thing but neither was understanding the other.

It is quite possible this is what is going on here. After all her long letter is filled with quite a bit of fractured english and I might be misunderstanding what she is ultimately trying to tell or ask me. It could be she is trying to discuss what she thinks simple gifts like flowers means and should signify and then asking for my opinion about the same thing.

I think Daveman is has exactly the right approach here. I was just exaggerating a little bit here and I am probably not really in the doghouse. But even if what she describes did or did not happen she is probably wondering about getting flowers if it is indeed as much of a tradition as I have heard others here and on various Russian woman discussion sites talk about.

However not a single person here has actually responded to my real question. As a newbie I do not have experience with the quality or promptness of remote floral deliveries to eastern europe. Can someone recommend any actual floral web site or better yet a pointer to a write-up where this is discussed either here or on another russian woman discussion site?

Yeah I know, they deliver in Ukraine as well. I've used them many times and still do. Quality is superb and the prices high but reasonable.

You need to discern what she is saying because, it isn't kosher that she would probe or ask you about sending her flowers or gifts. You send either when you want, not when she inquires. Pay attention to these details now. It is important that you do. You'll understand later.

Also, only send odd number of flowers, never even and chose the color of your roses carefully. Color has other significant meanings

I never sent flowers to anyone I dated. But I was sure to buy some when I arrived.
How often do you buy flowers for women where you live now ?

Yes, for instance the color yellow can signify you are saying goodbye or breaking up with them depending on the type of flowers I think.

When I was dating a lady in a city about 1 - 2 hours away from me I would get her flowers pretty much every time I made the trip down there. It was just a nice thing to do and cost so little.

I too am a believer in flowers if the woman enjoys them. However, it is when I want to give them or the thought of the flowers become lost

Another option is http://www.russianflora.com

Probably not much different than the one FP mentioned.  Relatively expensive (as most of these internet florists/gift delivery services are) but I have used them a few times and can vouch that they're decent.

Also, have you purchased your tickets already?? if not, I'll mention this -- always check your travel itinerary through http://tickettokiev.com or http://flyfromusa.com (same company known as Brand New Travel).  Call and talk to them about other possibilities as well.  I've used them for years and they have, thus far, a 100% success rate at finding me a better deal and/or better routing than anywhere else.  They're actually Russians and, get this, believe in the western virtues of customer service.  They'll also actually call you if a better deal or schedule becomes available and, if you're interested, change your flights for free.

I have zero affiliation with them other than being a very satisfied customer (gee, word of mouth referrals... so that's how exceptional customer service benefits a company, whodathunkit?)
