Demonizing the competition
« on: January 02, 2014, 06:53:25 PM »
Quote from: unknown
I have met numerous who feel exploited by foreign men.Net result is that many girls get  a with a very low opinion of foreign men.Sick ,bizarre requests and comments leave girls nauseated --it is the other side of the coin that they should not have to be part of.

Newbies,

In your dealings with FSU girls, this is a topic that you want to avoid with the proverbial ten-foot pole. Never, never, never suggest that your peers are sick, nauseating exploiters and don't feed such topics if they are introduced by others. Normality, or the lack it, will be self-evident and no amount of lip service will affect reality. In fact, doing so might make the object of your infection wonder what is so afflicted about you that you would feel the need to resort to such a tactic.

Tom, it is amazing that you just cannot leave well enough alone.  Fine then.. you are on a three day posting suspension.  If you choose to return, drop the confrontations about the moderators and/or the new policy, or we will make it permanent..

What gives, Dave?

Obviously I haven't seen the original post that you've edited (presumably you've deleted something significant), but the thread title and TomT's post seem to me to be absolutely spot on - "if you can't say something good, don't say anything at all" springs to mind.

I've had FSUW mention this to me, and I got out of the discussion as soon as I could.  I really believe that it's something the more innocent (gullible?) type of newbie needs to realise exists.  Unfortunately, not every WM is nice.

Looks like a case of attack the poster and not the post.  The post is spot on and good advice.

TomT has a long history - a legend some might say.   . . .

I agree with and applaud the actions of Daveman and other moderators.  A long time coming - chickens coming home to roost. . . . couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I'm happy that Daveman and the other moderators are taking action to cut out the crap which has permeated the forum for too long, but what has that got to do with the content of the opening post?

It doesn't matter what the content is. I'm just like you and am very glad Daveman's taken an active role in making sure the site's kosher to its intent that we all love one another and share our collective similar experiences, views and opinions. Soon we'll have nirvana around here.

Finally. How dare TomT have a counter opinion. Phew!

TomT's reputation have little to do with varied points of view.  It has more to do with how he treats people and how he systematically destroys the reputations of others for the smallest pretexts.

If Tom doesn't understand why there was moderator action, he's welcome to inquire directly to me, privately, as is anyone else welcome to inquire concerning their own situation.

That being said, we are not going to get into the habit of discussing moderator actions publicly.

As to intent: members are not expected to like each other, and frankly RWD doesn't care one way or the other.  Members are expected, however, to behave in a manner that is in alignment with the RWD Site Vision and within the forum rules set forth in the Terms of Service to which the members agreed as a condition of membership.

That's a croc! Maybe he does to some, but not others, so how do you make the distinction of right/wrong if you have two polar audiences. The board decides. That's how...

Just accept it, man. I know I did. We will all expressed the very same opinion and love one another. This should really help the cause of the board.

Sarcasm isn't actually outside the rules.  Trolling, and more specifically, continuously trolling of the forum, however, is.

Most merely have begun posting their opposing opinions in a manner which reflects a respect of RWD and her rules. There are just a couple who wish to continue to keep this in the limelight, and only one who chooses to continue to troll.

Take some time to consider whether you actually wish to be here.

Dave, from way out here it looks personal between you and GQ and the rules are getting murky.

Please define clearly what is trolling.

Also, what is a personal attack?

Dave, from way out here it looks personal between you and GQ and the rules are getting murky.

That is unfortunate.

Quote

Please define clearly what is trolling.

According to wiki:
In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people,[1] by posting inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a forum, chat room, or blog), either accidentally[3][4] or with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[5] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[6]

According to knowyourmeme.com:
Trolling is an Internet slang term used to describe any Internet user behavior that is meant to intentionally anger or frustrate someone else. It is often associated with online discussions where users are subjected to offensive or superfluous posts and messages in order to provoke a response.

And, the urban dictionary:
Being a prick on the internet because you can. Typically unleashing one or more cynical or sarcastic remarks on an innocent by-stander, because it's the internet and, hey, you can.

Quote
Also, what is a personal attack?

A personal attack is directly referencing the person n a negative, provocative manner.

Examples; "You are a whackjob", "you're a moron".. etc...

The latter is what has been given a little leeway in the past under the Self Moderation platform during a heated discussion, but remains superfluous to any discussion.

What about "putting those clowns on ignore" in reference to members here?

That does not appear to be direct reference to a particular member unless it comes after a quote, and is also sound advice.  The ignore feature is present for a reason.

There are many variables and hairs to split.  We can get even more specific if necessary, however, I think most of this really is common sense.  People understand when they are attacking others.

Or calling out a member prior to making that post.  It was clear to me and I also posted a response waiting for you or another moderator to clean it up per the TOS rule.

No, I can't say it is common sense any longer since you banned TomT for the post in this thread which was good advice. He even took out the name of whom originally posted it.  I say it is more about the moderators interpretations at this point.

You also have another member coming in and attacking TomT's credibility while he isn't here to defend himself.  That certainly shouldn't be allowed since that member has had his own history of problems.

Hey, there will be a point where the over moderating will stop people from posting.  I know I slowed mine down since I am not interested in getting edited and wasting my time.

The ignore feature has always been there even before your "crackdown."  Since you are enforcing these "personal attacks" I would think it would be dealt with instead of telling me about the ignore feature.

Post counts are up. Participation is up.  I don't think the majority feel as you do. That being said, we have no intention of editing anyone's posts.  Even the occasional 'questionable" comment isn't targeted unless it becomes more of a pattern.

We still do believe in the benefits of the self moderation paradigm.  However, that concepts only works when members choose to respect that as a privilege rather than license to do whatever.

So now there are patterns?  Slippery slope there...

Well, I can see from my posts, they have been mainly joking around.  I can see many other posts that are more mocking in nature.  I surely hope that post count and participation has a filter for quality.  ;)
