Remarks by Dr. Taras Kuzio, Research Associate Centre for Political and Regional Studies, Canadian Institute for Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta, Toronto, Canada, 13 June 2014.

- What can Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko offer to Russia?
- 0:08 Poroshenko doesn't support NATO membership unlike Yulia Tymoshenko
- 0:18 Poroshenko is not going to drop Ukraine's integration into the European Union
- 0:26 Poroshenko can't support federalism which isn't supported by the public or Ukraine's elites
- 0:33 Autonomous self-governing status for Donetsk
- 1:30 Transdnister criminal enclave
- 1:40 I think Vladimir Putin would prefer, rather than incorporating Donetsk into Russia, to keep Donetsk as a frozen conflict like Transnistria (Trans-Dniestr, Transdniestria) in Moldova, South Ossetia in Georgia.

Thank you to St. Vladimir Institute (Lidia Smilka) at the University of Toronto for the recording venue. http://www.stvladimir.ca

Some of my friends are reporting the Army is drafting some of them into service against the anti-terrorist operation in Donetsk.

Despite the Russian Duma revoking authorization to use the military in Ukraine?

Of course. If there is less chance of having to fight the Russian army, the Ukrainian one gets more courage.

Or.... Maybe the Duma has realized that this isn't a deal that they will have any benefit from and the end results harm more than help.

It'll take many years of being angels for the world to trust Russia after this.

The mask is off.  Russia is a crime state and already falling apart.  Abkhazia wants to return to Georgia.  It is bleeding foreign direct investment.  Belarus and Kazakhstan are flirting with the West.

Poroshenko made a speech last night promising visa free travel to EU by next year.  Game Over Vladimirovich

So because someone makes a promise that was made about 1000 times before its game over?
Rememberthat when the EU was standing on Maidan they told they won. Many people still wonder what they won.

Here are 3 very good clips of an interview with Petro P. It's a must see if you're faintly interested in the invasion of Ukraine by the Russians.

That guy has got it together. Serious 'eggs' and a brain to match! He'll be the man to evict the Russians if anyone can.

My wife says that PPs has been telling many lies. Many are upset about the broken promises and there are many who are calling for action against PP.

I have no idea to what extent this is.

See my comments elsewhere. The pact means little more as an extension from an existing pact.

Poroshenko made a speech saying that Ukrainians will have visa free travel by 2015.  Can EU citizens come to the US visa free or is it case by case?  Could Ukrainians come to the US visa free by 2015?

Today is a also a Ukrainian holiday:

My friend writes:

I do not watch TV in Kiev but i watch it here. The more I find out about our progress in this war the more depressed I become.     Our guys die every day because our government are still corrupted, steal military funds, appoint corrupted commanders etc.

Betsy says the same things about the Ukrainian war effort.  She blames Poroshenko for not closing the border with Russia.  She is tied of watching Ukrainian soldiers die.  When I told her that I blamed Putin, she gave a long sigh.  She argues a lot with her mother as her mother loves politics and watching the news.

I was able to make Betsy laugh when I quoted some lyrics form this song:

I think Putin won that wrap battle.

EU citizens must apply online for a visa waiver. That is case by case. However very few are actually denied.
As for promises, the same were made by Yuschenko in 2004. The only thing that came out of it was no visa to enter Ukraine for EU citizens in time for the European Cu football.

But you can come to the US no problems, is that correct?  Are certain EU citizens more equal than others when it comes to entering the US?

While you do not answer any question with 'yes' or are registered as felon / possible danger there is no problem. And as usual diplomats are a bit more equal.  ;)

Certainly here.  It has been reported in the last couple of days that a foreign national was arrested on 9th May and charged with burglary and assault with intent to rape - turns out to be embassy staff.  Of course he claimed diplomatic immunity and has been whipped back home by his government.  It will be interesting to see if they actually do anything other than reprimand him for getting caught.
