Leaving Russia on Tourist Visa
« on: July 26, 2014, 10:21:19 PM »
I have met an women from northern Russia. We get along great. She got a tourist visa to visit me. She said that she was stopped by customs and was expected to provide cash or non cash to prove that she could provide for herself on her trip. She said that this is a rule was put into place recently due to recent terrorist act. The rule was put into effect to deter people that are not serious about traveling and people that may be terrorists. I tried searching for information on this. The only thing I have found was from 3 and 4 years ago. Some of the information said yes and some said no. I am looking for recent information on this subject. Does a Russian woman leaving the country on a tourist visa. Does she need to prove that she has cash or non cash of $2500 to customs?

It's my recollection that proof of financial capability is done at the interview when the visa is applied for.  My wife has never been asked about financial capability at customs upon entering the USA.  Other members might have different experiences.

It would be a red flag to me.  If she had the money to support her visit, why couldn't she just have provided it and be done with it?  The proof of financial capability to support her visit has nothing to do with terrorist threats.  It was established to prevent 'tourists' from entering the country and then becoming dependent on the welfare system.  It seems like a reasonable requirement.

Hi Chamoru, and  :welcome: to RWD!

Sorry, but this is one of the oldest (and saddest) scams which people have talked about for as long as men have been able to find potential brides in Russia.  It's nonsense, but the girl normally asks the guy to immediately send the money to her (at the airport, no less) so that she can provide this and get on her flight.  Hopefully you didn't send anything.

Welcome to the forum Chamoru. Do lots of reading here to get better educated, and prepared to avoid wasting time with scams and illusions. Lots of political topics going on now but there is good information in here.
Fund the audits, spread the word and educate people, write your politicians and other elected officials. Stay active in the fight to save our country. Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776.

I doubt that you met her.
Writing mails is not a meeting. You will hopefully have found this in time not to lose huge amounts of money, and hopefully it will encourage you to think about starting it the right way.
It is still possible to find a good woman in Russia and some of them may even not like Putin  ;D
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)
