Which is why you emigrated to the USA for a better life.
I regret I did it.

His Facebook page says that he lives in Moscow.  And you?  Where do you live?  Oh that's right, you live in the USA.  He had the courage to stay in Russia and work towards making it a better country, while you fled.
Actually, I am returning to Russia. Just need to decide when because I have my younger son here.

Being a good economic advisor does not mean you are a good politician.

But it does usually mean you have a brain, and the ability to analyze things.

After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Fair enough.  It is your choice, your words about Nemtsov just seemed ironic.

If you do go back don't be surprised if Putin is gone through force by his own people within 5 years.  (my opinion)

It hiring mercennaries from another country sign that the country is participating in the war? In that case there are more countries involved as Russia.

Amazing, these days you can hire russian mercenaries together with russian tanks

And what in your opinion is called shelling another country? Russian anti-ukrainian mercenaries in Russia with accidental access to 'grad'?

BTW, my brother been for weeks shelled every night by 'russian mercenaries' from russian side of border.

Shadow, you can lie to yourself about reality as much as you like, reality will not change.
Russian service man didn't go on vacation in Ukraine on tanks (What simpleton one need to be to believe this?)
Russia invaded sovereign country and responsible for deaths of thousands of Ukrainians.

Doll, you should have asked them what "a better life" means.  Maybe to them buying big screen televisions is considered better.

For some, it is pretty funny how they consider their life the best but have to go out of country to get themselves a wife.  For quite a few, a wife that can't even speak the same language.

Maybe a better life is being married and divorced 3 or 4 times.

It seems to me his actions right now show a man who is vacillating back and forth in his decision making process.

Putin is doing whatever is necessary to stay in power.    He knows if he ever lost power he would be imprisoned forever.

No Western country will join Ukraine in a military conflict against Russia.  I am sorry to say such.   The West has time for the sanctions and isolation to work against Russia.

Russia's economy and status will diminish.

Agree, however it is a shame that the sheeple of Europe plus the USA did not provide defensive weapons in the beginning.  I would only hope that more severe sanctions will be imposed soon to minimize the deaths in Ukraine.  It's interesting to note that some Europeans and some US congressmen are including the return of Crimea before sanctions are lifted.   As far a what Obama says.....who knows what it means.

What you are saying is likely true now, but what if someone like Romney decides to run again, and he wins?
(you know, the guy everybody thought was nuts 'cause he said that Russia was our enemy)

as an australian who was an impartial onlooker with a marriage and strong  family ties in both countrys i had grown to enjoy and love both russia and ukraine

i felt completly safe and have enjo0yed my experiences in both also

however since crimea was invaded and stolen , my view have hardened against the russian /putin gov ,
the russian  people are to some degree also responsible by not doing enough to stop him ,

MISS A , i fully support and agree with you also 1000%

putin is a dictator of the worst kind

unfortunatly i dont think he has finished yet, in the process he has turned russia into a isolated phariah state, he will go down in history as an evil man , he may even yet suffer the same as yanukovich did , we can only hope

MISS A , i hope your brother and family stay safe ,

Short term a lot of economies are taking a hit...longer term Russia isn't going to suffer much, they sit on a lot of natural resources.  I don't know if that is true regarding the west having time for sanctions to work...and I don't think they have successfully isolated Russia to begin with.

It will be very interesting to see what happens during the G20 summit.

It will be very interesting to see how Putin handles real questions from real journalists during the G20, instead of the scripted questions from Kremlin mouthpieces Russian journalists that he is accustomed to.

Exactly!  Is he going to continue to deny that Russian soldiers and tanks are inside of Ukraine?  This time they are not going to give him a pass, like they did in France.

Another major Putin accomplishment; having Russia become a junior partner in the alliance with China.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-10-12/putin-deals-china-winning-hand-as-sanctions-power-rival.html

Wouldn't be surprising at all if in 20-30 years time Russia ended up being a vassal state to China...

I do not pretend to know what Putin tried to achieve and if he managed this or not.
I only know that in my opinion the goals were fully achieved.
As for being under threat, the people in Ukraine have chosen to fall in to civil war. That adds to a line of bad choices over the last 25 years. However the people have the right to choose, and the obligation to solve their own mess without blaming the rest of the world for it.

Then why the need for Russian tanks and Putin's intervention?

I believe he has achieved all he wanted as well. Mostly an unstable Ukraine ripe for his picking at his choosing. He has tanks on and claiming parts Ukraine proper in addition to Crimea as his. I would say he way underestimated the cost of achieving his goals however. The total expense is yet to be calculated.

Please convey my thanks to your son for serving.  I am sure that you have imprinted in him much maternal guidance, and I question whether a young man mature enough to serve in the military would need even more to thrive in this world.

If he is like other young men, he most likely will meet a fine young woman who completes him and eventually gives you a grandchild.

At least you can fool yourslf in to thinking it is another country.

Yeah, right, whole world is a bunch of fools. And Council of Europe’s Committee is at all bunch of idiots. Could you imagine they demand russian troops to be withdrawn from Ukraine while russian troops do not exist in Ukraine? How daft they can be!

And this is how ukrainians manage to shell their own country from territory of russia

Imagine, Ukrainians are that good. And, yeah, it is not unique video, web is full of them and even daft NATO believes them and agrees Ukrainians managing to shell Ukraine from Russia

And these graves (hard to call them that of course) in Rostov is not for russian soldiers who died in Ukraine. Those are russin soldiers that committed suicide while on training in Rostov.

And this is also not russian soldiers wiping out Ukrainian village. Its russians on vacation in Ukraine! Lovely suntan, don't you think?

As I said, Shadow, if it makes you feel better - lie to yourself as much as you like.
But have a shame in trying to tell those lies publicly. Innocent people died and dying every day because of russian h**lo
