Like it or not, Forbes has announce Vladimir Putin as the world's most powerful man for the second year in a row ahead of Obama and Xi Jinping of China.

Former Russian investor says Putin is worth $200 billion which would make him the world's richest man by far. Bill Gates, who is thought to be the richest, is around $80 billion. Gates has given away $30 billion to charity around the world. How much has Putin given to charity within Russia?

Since he's had experience with the system, maybe Bill's estimate is accurate or maybe he's bitter and over exaggerating Putin's worth? Last year I read Putin was worth $70. How they come up with the numbers, I don't know. It's easy to estimate Putin's worth based off assets and money that's exposed but harder to estimate what he's hiding. Putin has done a good job directing Russians anger to uncooperative Oligarchs he blames for being greedy.

It's not hard to notice that Putin's actions make other world leaders react. Unlike other world leaders, Putin uses his military to gain territory. While Obama goes around the world and apologize for America's behavior and includes Russia in our business deals, Putin goes around the world and steals business from America. It seems every month Putin is striking a deal worth billions in arms, nuke reactors, and oil with various nations. Obama wanted to make a friend out of Russia. Obama envisioned this world becoming a more peaceful place during his presidency. Putin has made this world a more dangerous place. Obama should easily be #1 in the rankings but it is Putin, not Obama, that is getting his way when shaping the world.

Comparing Putin to Obama is a false dichotomy and doesn't address the issues I raised in my post.  Hitler was on the cover of Time magazine several times, wanna switch places with him?

Nothing replaces military might in terms of what it can offer a world power, but cultural, economic, and political power is lasts longer over time.

Vlad is a billionaire many times over Doll. I've seen estimates as high as 200 billion and as low as 40 billion. He started public service after being a KGB officer in East Germany. That's not rubles btw, that's dollars.

Now, without there was some sudden rise in KGB officer's salary, Vlad started his career of public service with pretty much an average income, correct? Let's stay on the low side of his wealth at 40 billion. $40 billion is a large, very large fortune to have made in public service for a 25 year career. 1 billion equals 1000 millions. That's a 1 with 9 zeros behind it.

What kind of salary did they pay an assistant Mayor in Petersburg? How much do they pay a president in Russia? Maybe Vlad was a really good investor and penny miser. Even if he were the best investor on earth he wouldn't have honestly made 40 billion dollars from investments. But for the sake of argument, let's say he did earn 1 billion from wise investing. Where did the other 39 billion come from?

One could logically conclude he stole it. But where could the president of Russia steal 39 billion dollars. Think about that for a minute, where could the president of a country steal 39 billion dollars? Where would that 39 billion dollars be today if he had not stolen it? Who did he steal 39 billion from? Rich businesses trying to do business in Russia or from the Russian people. Can you answer that honestly?
