As Tony the Tiger used to say, GRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!   Just hope my luck with the gubmint is as good as yours, I could have my lady here on her birthday (Jan. 18).

My bags are packed, and headed for LAX in  a few hours for Depropetrovs'k.  Dang, I should have picked an easier city to have to spell and pronounce!

Gee, I thought it was Dee Knee Pro Pet  Rovsk.  Rookie mistake... :cluebat: Unless the UA and the Ru pronunciations are a bit different.

Getting there is half the fun, right?

Heading for LAX in about an hour.  One more baggage check, Got everything I need?  Check
Need everything I got?  Nope.
Check the house:  Coffee pot-off.  Cat-fed.  Neighbor picks up mail, check.  Buddy picks me up, not yet.
Remember something about five minutes before boarding-Check

TODAY IS THE DAY!

Well guys, she is at the gate at SVO waiting to board the plane for LAX.  It leaves in about 30 minutes and I leave for LAX in a few hours.  The long wait is finally over and Lily will be on American soil in a little more than 12 hours!  Flowers, Champagne and candy is here waiting for her (and a box of Dunkin' Donuts - long story).  Now the long day flying to LAX and waiting at the airport for her begins.  Wish us luck!

The wait won't be as long as you think.  I have been through LAX on that same flight many times.  It is a breeze getting through customs.  She'll be out and in your arms before you can say 'Bob's your Uncle'.  A Kewpie Doll for anyone who can tell me which Disney movie that saying comes from.

Russian culture says it is bad luck to express congratulations before an event occurs.  However, after she arrives you will have little time for us.  So I give you my "Congratulations and Best Wishes."  The K-1 process went smoothly and quickly for the two of you.  Good work!

My wife waited two hours to clear immigration at Miami airport..  The place was jammed.

I recall a Brit saying this once when  I was in the UN.  So I had to Wiki, and Wiki says it is the title of a 1942 British film.  So if this originated with Disney, it had to be in the black & white era when Mickey Mouse looked like a stick figure.

Hi guys!  Well, we made it home last night.  She did spend 1:45 in immigration so it was a mad dash to get to our connecting flight.  We had to go from the International terminal to Terminal 6 at LAX but we got to our gate just as they started boarding.  The short flight to SLC wasn't bad but she hadn't slept in 27 hours and I was running 19 hours on 2 hours sleep.  We got home and had a champagne toast and she got her roses, candies and the donuts (yes, the donuts were a huge hit).  She explored a little around the house and took a shower and we watched the cat check out her new home.  Then it was bed for both of us.  This morning she is already unpacking and we are making the shopping list of things she needs.  Then its off to get her phone switched to my plan and then some clothing shopping and the Russian grocery.  Should be a fun, albeit expensive, day!

Hi Guys,

Well the saga continues!  Lily has been here about 6 weeks now and tomorrow we head to Vegas.  The wedding is Tuesday night.  In the last six weeks, I have taken her all over SLC plus to Idaho and Wyoming.  Quite a bit of shopping has been done and just overall getting her used to being here but she has taken to SLC like a fish to water!  I have eaten many Russian dishes she has made and loved everything except for buckwheat.  I can eat it but I'm not a fan.  She has gotten to eat much of my cooking as well.

Anyway, off to Vegas tomorrow for a few days and then to the Grand Canyon for a few more.  GC was something she always wanted to see so it'll be the perfect honeymoon!

Honeymoon in Vegas sounds fun. Take her to Cirque du Soleil shows and the old Vegas on Freemont Street which reinvented itself.  They have live entertainment, magic shows and freak shows on the streets every evening.

Here are a couple of pics of Grand Canyon.

Look at them, then you won't have to go.

Ken,

Congratulations.  Living together for the first month is where most of the adjustments are made.  Sounds like you've made it through with flying colors.  Buckwheat is not an acquired taste.  You either like it or you don't.  Cheer up.  There are many ways to make Kasha that don't include Buckwheat.

Thanks for the update Ken and remember, there is no better place to be than here with the men of RWD on your wedding day.

P.S. The forum is also a great place to be on your honeymoon. ;D
