Ukraine Famine Monument Erected In Washington

..."After years of work and some setbacks, a memorial to the millions who perished in the Ukraine famine of the 1930s, or Holodomor, has been erected in the U.S. capital.

The monument -- a bronze slab resting on a stone plinth and showing a field of wheat stalks -- was winched off the trailer of a truck and bolted into place in downtown Washington on August 4"...

Excellent!   Its time Americans acknowledge the horrible atrocities committed by Stalin and why its so important to protect freedom and human rights now more than ever.

Now if only the NY Times would recognize the Holodomor!

Duranty's Pulitzer should be returned, as it was given for lies and propaganda; and the NYT should publicly apologize.

I agree. Duranty's coverup was deceitful and disgusting.

Only idiots in denial.

We've had a thread that ran over the years on this below. Some are in denial. In the 3rd to the last post I said the man who coined the word "genocide" said Holodomor was genocide. I once dated a Ukrainian woman who said she had relatives that told her of those who died through starvation or were killed if they were caught with food.

I attached one of many photos that could be found on Google if one searches for images about Holodomor.  Holodomor was sandwiched between two world wars. For many decades life was hell for Ukrainians, particularly for those in Western Ukraine that didn't want to embrace Stalin.

The Holodomor was a prime example of class warfare and confiscatory taxation.

Shameful journalists, some of them from the West, promoted the lie that the famine was really nothing more than a "hunger protest" against progressive Socialist policies by rich farmers.

First, the government used confiscatory taxation to seize assets, then when people began to starve they seemed unable, and unwilling, to do what was necessary to save lives.

The sad truth: Stalin and the Communists meant for millions to die. It was the class warfare cleansing of Ukraine.

To be blunt, we should not be so surprised at the nationalistic pride many Ukrainians feel, and for their anger against Russian oppression and occupation.

One lady told me her great grandparents knew a man who when he couldn't pay the taxes and told the authorities he had nothing. The authorities said he had something and took his family away.

Here's a letter from a doctor to her friend from Wiki link below

A woman doctor wrote to a friend in June 1933 that she had not yet become a cannibal, but was "not sure that I shall not be one by the time my letter reaches you." The good people died first. Those who refused to steal or to prostitute themselves died. Those who gave food to others died. Those who refused to eat corpses died. Those who refused to kill their fellow man died

In the wiki link is a photo of American communists attacking Ukrainians who were demonstrating in Chicago. Holodomor isn't the only tragedy cause by Communists. Communists in China, Cambodia, and many other nations really want their people to understand why Communism is best for them.

Rich farmers protesting through starvation? How about those infants? Protesting too? Nations turned a blind eye. Some journalists were on board with the Communists. How can they view what's happening and report differently? They want to continue to eat good, that's why.

Whynotme, no sympathy for those that died during Holodomor? Instead you post one person's opinion on how America's Great Depression went down. Unlike what Stalin did, humans didn't cause the Great Depression on purpose, Mother Nature did. When we had years of drought, farmland dried up. When a nation's food supply dwindles, panic sets in and the economy tanks. That won't happen today. We have better farming technique, and better ways to irrigate crops.

Based on previous posts, I remember you and your husband has Communist beliefs. Do you believe Stalin, Mao Zedong of China, and the Khmer Rouge of Cambodia murder against those that didn't want Communism just? Those are just a few of many Communist nations that came down hard on their people.

Should Russians erect Monument in Moscow too?

How many FSU people live and want to live in America? How many Americans live and want to live in the FSU? You can continue to show there is no difference between over here and over there but most people aren't going to buy it. I see you're still committed. After marriage, where will you and your husband choose to live? Where's your best chance to prosper and feel safe? Where is best for your children and their future children to have the best chance to succeed and live happy lives?

Of course with any tragedy there are those who will deny them. Whether it's
the holocaust, holodomor, Pearl Harbor or even the Twin Towers on 9-11.

I don't think that the idiots Herbert Hoover or Franklin Roosevelt intentionally prolonged

Second, I've often wondered how ideas pop into your head. Once again you
make wild assumptions and accusations with no evidence or even a semi

don't you argue about the facts and reasoning posted in the thread rather than

I might totally disagree with Mila but I wouldn't call her husband a communist and
then expect her to defend Pol Pot during a discussion about Russia/Ukraine conflicts.

It seems you agree with whynot that the American government caused the problems from 1929 on. Big business, banks, and the weather are innocent. People at that time thought FDR deserved 2, no, make that 3 terms. Americans must have enjoyed the suffering, didn't they? People have their theories on why America suffered for about a decade. IMO messing around with a population's food supply will make lots of people panic. The dust bowl wasn't created by the American government.

If somebody can defend a genocide such as Holodomor, they will defend the Killing Fields of Cambodia. Hold your tongue! Let whynot speak for herself. She may or may not be defending what Stalin did, but she's shown no sympathy for the way Ukrainians died and tried to point out what happened there is no different than what happens in America at a similar time. Can we hear her thoughts on this?

It seems you agree with whynot that the American government caused the problems from 1929
on. Big business, banks, and the weather are innocent.

Did I say any of that? or did you make that up in your head?
Yes, you made it up in your head.

I said that the policies of Hoover and Roosevelt prolonged the Great Depression.

Hoover signed the Smoot-Hawley tariff into law in June 1930 which raised taxes on over 20,000 imported goods to record levels. He raised the top income tax rate from 25 percent to 63 percent and the lowest income tax rate from 1.1 percent to 4 percent in 1932.

Those huge tax increases during a recession/depression made things significantly worse.

Roosevelt imposed excise taxes, harmful regulations on businesses, increased the top tax rate
to 79 percent
, doubled government spending between 1932 and 1940, and artificially raised
wages and prices. Those policies made a bad situation even worse.

Americans must have enjoyed the suffering, didn't they? People have their theories on why America suffered for about a decade. IMO messing around with a population's food supply will make lots of people panic. The dust bowl wasn't created by the American government.

Are you entirely ignorant of the various controls that FDR enacted that affected the countries
food supply?

Then quit speaking for other people. Let people use the own mouths occasionally.

I am free to comment as I wish. You are free to make brainless and baseless posts if you
wish, but you should expect to be called on them.

If somebody can defend a genocide such as Holodomor, they will defend the Killing Fields of Cambodia.

How did you make that jump in logic?

Hold your tongue!

Was there something that happened in your life where you thought you gained some
kind of authority allowing you to tell me what to do? If so, I certainly don't recognize
that authority.

Let whynot speak for herself. She may or may not be defending what Stalin did, but she's shown no sympathy for the way Ukrainians died and tried to point out what happened there is no different than what happens in America at a similar time. Can we hear her thoughts on this?

Why would you ask me if you can hear her thoughts on this? It's entirely up to her whether
she responds to you or not. Whynotme has never checked with me first before making a post
and I doubt that she will suddenly start doing so now.

Starting to get acquainted with the local education system I'm not surprised to see so many ignorant people here, I feel sorry for them. The fact the college teacher (American) didn't know Pearl Harbor day tells a lot. Just curious why some people are so exited about events happened on the opposite side of the world but so blind to learn their own history. Btw, any monuments to Aleuts and Japanese died in concentration camps in USA (interesting to know indeed)?

Actually, the US did better than just a monument.  If you drive into rural California, they have actually kept the internment cities as a reminder not to let such a thing happen ever again.

Moreover, the US actually apologized to the internees and their heirs.  Not once, but twice.  Each internee or their heirs was given $20,000 as compensation for their time spent in internment.

I find it incredible that you focus on everything bad about your adopted country, but never have anything good to say about it.  I guess that's just your personality.
