I've brought you two fat stories today. The first involves immigration policy. The second involves a photo effort to convince people that fat women are beautiful.

New Zealand Denies Immigration to U.K. Wife Because She's Too Fat

New Zealand immigration officials are keeping a U.K. wife from joining her husband "down under" because they say she is too fat, the Daily Mail reports.

British citizens Rowan Trezise, 33, and Richie Trezise, 35, are living apart as she tries desperately to shed the pounds needed to comply with New Zealand guidelines that immigrants maintain a healthy BMI, or body mass index.

BMI is a weight-height ratio that estimates percentage of body fat. The New Zealand Immigration Service requires all applicants to undergo a complete medical examination, which includes body size measures like "waist circumference."

The regulations were supposedly put into place for budget reasons. The country's health care system cannot afford to open its doors to overweight immigrants, a spokesman for New Zealand's Fight the Obesity Epidemic explained to the Daily Mail.

Over half of New Zealand adults and nearly one-third of New Zealand children are already overweight or obese, according to the group. Those figures are expected to rise, as are the health problems associated with being overweight, such as high blood pressure and diabetes

As a self-proclaimed fat woman herself, Brazilian photographer Mariana Godoy wants to rid the negative stigma from the word "fat" and show that fat can be just as beautiful as any other body type.

Godoy's new photo series "Empoderarte Me," translated as "Empowering Me," features plus-size women posing in lingerie. Some of the images feature the women with different slogans written on their bodies to protest fatphobia and encourage body love.

"The fat woman is so sexy and beautiful," Godoy told The Huffington Post. "I want people to see that the word 'fat' is not an insult but a compliment. Being fat and loving your body is amazing."

I don't think the purpose of the photo shoot was to convince anyone, or to change standards of beauty.  I think it was about the women themselves, and their dignity.

I think it was to show that they, like  everyone else who doesn't fit in, somehow feel entitled to shove their lifestyles and beliefs down other peoples throats.  Then they scream bloody murder if they are not accepted and applauded.  This is obviously some extremely overweight, unhealthy, unattractive and likely unhappy people, who have banded together for their few minutes of fame.  They are supposedly proud of their horrible lifestyle choices.  I doubt they are and bet they would secretly love to exchange those bodies for normal ones. 

While they pretend to be happy and pretend to consider themselves beautiful, it is unlikely they are really happy with their bodies.  One indicator is the extreme amount of tattooing several of them display.  In my untrained opinion, very few people happy with their looks resort to this level of body art. 

I also am 100% sure these women do not feel healthy and/or energetic.  This level of health neglect has nothing good going for it.  The old saying, misery loves company, comes to mind when I see people like this trying to convince others to accept them as beautiful and happy.

You don't know they are unhappy, or proud.  What they choose to eat is their choice.  Other than encroaching on seating in public venues (and in that case, they should have to purchase two seats), their choices have zero effect on you, or how you live your life. So why do you feel entitled to comment on their looks, or denigrate them?  That was the point.  You proved the photographer's point.

While they pretend to be happy and to consider themselves beautiful, it is unlikely they are really happy with their bodies.  One indicator is the extreme amount of tattooing several of them display.  In my untrained opinion, very few people happy with their looks resort to this level of body art.  I also am 100% sure these women do not feel fresh and energetic.  This level of health neglect has nothing good going for it and the old saying, misery loves company, comes to mind when I see people like this trying to convince others to accept them as beautiful and happy.

The most energetic man I ever knew was carrying about 80 lbs too much weight.  He ended up, in old age, losing a lot of weight, primarily due to a lack of appetite.  So that argument doesn't fly with me.

Nevertheless, I suppose Rush has a point.  Imagine, those uppity beeyotches - wanting to get paid almost 70 cents on the dollar on what men earned, attempting to ensure they wouldn't be fired if pregnant, or wanting to go to work without having some man grab their breasts or buttocks because he felt like it (no pun intended).  The nerve!

Seen a lot of big girl profiles. They're looking for a man that will accept them as they are. There aren't many men who are going to accept them. For those that will accept them, it may be for a one night stand or friends with benefit situation. Marriage is out of the question. Most of those women are going to be lonely for most of their lives. I tell my sons the world isn't going to change for them so they better change for the better to be accepted by the world. Many of those women want the world to change for them.

I never said I knew anything.  I said I think.  I said it was unlikely.  And, at one point, I said in my opinion which was untrained. 

These women are massively overweight.  That is just a fact.  That is not my opinion.  Since they don't have good bodies, it is unlikely they are really happy with them.  Who is really happy to be massively obese? 

So why do you feel entitled to comment on their looks, or denigrate them?  That was the point.  You proved the photographer's point.

I feel entitled because they put their pics up and opened the door for anyone who wants to make comments.  I feel entitled because in this land of free speech I have as much right to comment as anyone else.  I feel entitled to speak the truth and if that denigrates them, too bad.  Sometimes the truth is not kind.  I would love to see your comments about me if I looked like that.

Maybe so, maybe not.  I have no reason to call you a liar.  So I accept your example of a rare fat man who is a ball of energy.  But he is a genetic freak who can carry 80 extra pounds and be energetic.  Most fat people barely have any energy and live from one sugar boost to the next with little activity beyond the bare minimums in between.

 

Lots of people have tattoos.  Do you think this guy is unhappy with his body?

I have no idea who he is or if he is happy with his body or not.  One of the most physically beautiful women I ever met was a constant self criticizer and was never happy with her body.  She could have been an SI cover girl.  She committed suicide in 1997.  She was young beautiful and a very kind girl, but she had never been happy with her looks.  So who the hell knows if this guy is happy or not?  What does it have to do with the fat women?  If they had bodies that rivaled his for fitness I would understand the question. 

I stand by my untrained opinion most heavily tatted people are not happy with their appearance and are attempting to draw attention away from their self perceived flaws.  Maybe I am right, maybe not.  But just like you, I am entitled to freely voice my opinion on people who put themselves in the public view and invite commentary.

I am not real sure what that means?  Several on here have seen a pic of me. While I am no supermodel I don't look too bad for a 60 year old man.  I assure you I am not even remotely in these women's leagues of obesity.  I wear a 34 waist pant.  I doubt these ladies could get them around their upper thighs much less over their butts. 

As to my face?  Well that I don't know.  I would say I am a 5.  But who knows?  Maybe so, maybe not.  But if I put my face on the internet like that, I would realize someone would call me a 1 and that would be fine with me.  Hopefully you would be there to defend my honor.  But I doubt it.

However my point remains, and still stands:  as a man, I don't get to proclaim for my own benefit, to everyone that I must be found handsome, or that I am handsome.
