Sweet Jesus!  I didn't know it was possible to be 910 pounds and still alive at age 70.  She must be a miracle woman or something.

What I wonder who the lucky person is to be cleaning her butt after all these decades? To find a person for that task is a miracle in itself. At her weight, she can't wipe her butt or even walk to the shower to let water do the work.

By the time they get that far out of hand they have more problems than
a '74 Fiat with 500K miles on it. Sometimes they have gone months without
using a toilet. Some of their bodily functions have shut down. They can have
mold growing from their skin, their kidney's, liver, bladder, immune systems
are barely/poorly functioning. They often have open sores and sometimes their
skin has grown into the couch or bed that they are restricted too.

I wonder if her health insurance covers the cost of this, the taxpayers have to cover it or if she has to pay it herself?  I always wonder when people put themselves in a situation requiring some major rescue who pays for their error in judgment? 

If you climb mountains, sail oceans by yourself or gain so much weight the FD has to haul you out of a building with a crane, I think you should absorb that cost yourself and not pass it on to others. But I really think it gets passed back to other policy holders or to the tax payers. 

I can't imagine ever letting myself get into this kind of condition. I could see slowing down and getting fat with advanced age.  But, never getting to be this big.  I don't even see how the human body could get this large?

Actually Muzh, if you start a fire due to your own intent and they have to respond when it gets out of control they do bill you in Missouri.  I don't know for sure, but I would bet they do in your area too.  See it is one thing when an unforeseen accident occurs and you need help.  But it is completely different when the help is needed solely because it is your own fault.

And what if you don't have the $2,000?  Does the ambulance turn around and go somewhere else without you?  The taxi driver, not being a trained paramedic, will possibly find that you've died on the journey to hospital.  What then?  Does he dump your body out of the door and go off to find another fare?

Although our ambulance service is not part of the Government healthcare system as such, being run through most of New Zealand by the private Order of St John, all callouts for accidents are funded by the Accident Compensation Corporation, to which all taxpayers contribute by targeted levies.  Employees' levies are paid by the employer, but contractors fund their own (I pay about $250 a year extra, because I also have a part-time contract for work that has nothing to do with my full-time employment).  These levies cover ALL accidents, not just those in motor vehicles, so if your victim was injured inside the home (e.g. falling and cracking her skull) there would be no additional costs payable for an ambulance ride to hospital.

St John normally charge $88 for a non-accidental (usually medical) callout, but that is waived if the person is a Supporter of the organisation.  This costs $45 annually for a single person, $60 for a joint membership, or $75 for a family.  If you're a non-resident, or fall under various categories shown on their website which don't qualify for free medical treatment, St John will charge $800 for a callout.  To make it crystal clear to the nit-pickers on here, "free" refers to no additional payment being sought for treatment or room costs on arrival at the hospital.

Their job is to help people who need medical attention. They do a better job when they don't have to think about money. A guy I know had symptoms of a stroke and his girlfriend called 911. Ambulance ride cost $2400 and the hospital bill for a few days stay cost over $20,000. He was 54 and didn't have medical insurance, no job, and no money in the bank. He didn't pay but when he did get a job, they would garnish 25% of his pay towards paying the bill he owed. He filed for bankruptcy and that took care of that and other debts he had.

My Grandfather, God rest his soul, started smoking at 12.  Gave it up for a couple years in his sixties, then for good at 75 or so.  He was very vocal in telling everyone what a horrible habit they had.  But, I wouldn't do that.

One of my neighbor ladies owns and operates a high-end women's clothing store.

She and her husband were over last week and she told how a well-dressed man came into her shop smoking.

The clerks told him it wasn't allowed.

He put his hand around the cigarette and said he would be careful that nothing dropped on the carpet !!!!!!

One of the clerks then went out into hallway to find a security guard . . . but the guy left before she returned.

Smoking a$$holes everywhere it seems . . . but none in my house.

Most of you probably know it is difficult to get the smoke smell out of clothes.
