I've had a few Lebanese ladies in my classes that were mainstream Muslims...stunning  attractive (and fashionable) they are.

Of course I condemn them all.

There is no common thread however with the ones listed above.

The characters from the Middle East do have something in common--an ideology stemming from a religion that teaches it is okay to kill those who refuse to convert. Not only okay, but promises rewards in "paradise" for doing so.

The Koran was written well over a thousand years ago.  The Bible is a thousand years older than that.  The number of people who believe literally in the totality of either book, while substantial, is but a miniscule percentage of the total number of adherents to either Islam or Christianity.

To me, it is a telling point that the first (and the loudest) to condemn such acts of violence are Muslims themselves.

I used to think this important, yet now I don't car.  On the outside many may condemn the acts, yet silently support the violence.   When 9/11 happened, I recall the TV footage from different Muslim countries showing cheering in the street.

The moderate Muslims are not taking back their religion from the zealots.  For example, even though the jihadists "sleep" in Muslim communities while waiting to strike, do the local Muslims report suspicious behavior to Law Enforcement?

And even if only 1% of the Muslims subscribe to radical beliefs, we are still talking about 16 million possible Jihadists.  And how many does it take to conduct a terrorist attack?

Kinda like Western people when they sometimes claim that the 'collateral damage' of bombs in Muslim countries is so sad, as they shovel more noodle salad down their gullet.

I disagree with you, mendy.  But there is no Islamic hierarchy, to speak with one voice.  You can read a fair bit of condemnation on social media -

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/reaction-frustration-of-muslims-forced-to-condemn-atrocity-8630179.html

I know that in Canada, the two largest plots of extremists, one to blow up a bridge carrying rail passengers, the second, to bomb Canada's financial district, were both foiled because Muslims reported on those in their communities who they knew were being radicalized.

Most of the violence perpetrated by Islamic extremists is directed at other Muslims.
After the fall of communism, the biggest mistake Boris Yeltsin's regime made was not to disband the KGB altogether. Instead it changed its name to the FSB and, to many observers, morphed into a gangster organisation, eventually headed by master criminal Vladimir Putin. - Gerard Batten

Rare.

No, it's not.  You just don't see reports from countries outside your normal orbit.

I disagree with you, mendy.  But there is no Islamic hierarchy, to speak with one voice.

This is, of course, the crux of the matter.  Catholicism has the Pope as an undisputed leader: one who has demonstrated that he is far more in touch with the world than any of his predecessors, and quite probably more so than many of today's King, Queens and Presidents.  The Church of England has the Archbishop of Canterbury as its main spokesman, even though he may be little-known outside the United Kingdom, but other churches and faiths simply do not have a global standout to whom everyone can turn in times of need.

With the Shi'a and Sunni factions in the Middle East seemingly intent on destroying each other as they try to become the supreme "tribe" of Islam, far too many are getting caught in the crossfire.  That, of course, is on top of the radical element who don't care what they attack or whom they kill.

The lack of hierarchy allows clerics to espouse whatever they interpret in the Quran.    I get the feeling they are more  diverse than nondenominational Christian preachers.

There is the assemblage of intellectual  philosophers and scientists in Mecca? (I forget their name) who are suppose to provide the ultimate interpretation of Quran.  Nevertheless, the individual Muslim worshipper is not bound to obey  them or a cleric.  He prays only to Allah.

Also made difficult by the text having been written in VIIth-century Arabic, some 1,400 years ago.

I don't think so, and even if there is, every Imam is probably free, within wide limits, to offer his own interpretation or that of his 'school' of origin.

Many Imams operating in non-Muslim countries are funded by the ultraconservative ad-Da'wa al-Wahhābiya (Wahhabi Mission) of Saudi Arabia. A few have been expelled from UE countries in the past for their too-radical preachings or suspicions of harbouring real/potential terrorist among their brethren. After Paris, this is likely to increase ::).

List below starts in 1968 with the assassination of US presidential candidate Robert Kennedy. The lists seems to be missing the many minor acts of terrorism Israel endures on a regular basis.

Still missing the point.   See my post above -

How many terrorist acts, before 1979, were the work of Islamic fundamentalists, blowing things up in the name of Allah?  Even the PLO were largely secular.

You keep adding stuff to what you're asking. It's kind of difficult to find news articles back in the 60's before the internet was invented. The question should be "When do Muslim fanatics not blow up anything in the name of Allah?"

No, I'm not.

No, the PLO were not mostly secular.  They're Muslim and follow the tenants of Islam and Sharia Law. But it doesn't matter if they're Fatah, Hamas or some fundamentalist variation, it's their acts of violence that make them a terrorist.

This ongoing debate over what political faction, moderate, fundamentalist, Sunni, Shiite, people get caught up in discussing is irrelevant when there's an individual standing in front of you wearing a bomb vest firing an AK-47 indiscriminately into a crowd killing men, women and children while screaming Allah Akbar. It's a safe bet that person is a radicalized Muslim.

The PLO never claimed to be carrying out their terrorist acts in the name of God.  It's a stretch to state that.  Their terrorism was all about a Palestinian state.  Christians lived there relatively freely.  It was only when Hamas gained a foothold, largely due to the PLO's corruption and menadacity in dealing with locals, that Palestinians become more radicalized.

My point was, there were virtually no "radicalized Muslims" killing people before 1979.  Wahhibism was relatively contained before that.

Alright, Bo. The next time some PLO terrorist has a gun pointed at my head I'll be sure to ask if they're committing their act of terrorism in the name of Allah or for Real Estate. It'll certainly make me feel better knowing the guy about to finish me is simply your run of the mill Muslim terrorist vice a jihadist.

Odds are there were, we just didn't hear about it, and the west didn't get involved. (Aside from the Crusades.)

Back in the 70's, all the attention on radicalized religious extremists were the Christians killing each other in Ireland.

I am not talking about today.  I am referring to the PLO's acts in the 1970's.  Please find me one source that refers to the religious undertones of their terrorism.
