Sending Money To Crimea
« on: December 07, 2015, 01:50:41 PM »
Does anyone know how to send money into occupied Crimea?  I have starving, shivering relatives and need to keep the mizzus happy.
It looks like the only method is to find a non-sanctioned bank and have the in-laws open an account there and then wire the money to this account
Is there any alternative, it looks like the Russian money transfer services are setup to function solely within Russia
Surely, I can't be the only westerner with in-laws in Crimea?

I kind of surprised you haven't had more responses. You might want to PM Wayne. He has a situation in Crimea I think where he's sending money. Normally there'd be several arguing that their ways are the best way

Moneygram and Western Union quit working a long time ago in Crimea. There was a Russian company, but it does not work from USA.

About the only way is a wire transfer to a Russian bank that also has branches in Crimea.

Some banks and credit unions will not wire to any Russian bank, so the problem can be your bank in USA.

There would probably be an intermediate bank involved.

What is the name of the Russian company and can he access it online?

I use them to send money to Ukraine, they usually charge 1% of the amount sent. I think you can only send money from the CIS.

You would think that owning a property in Crimea is the worse thing that can happen, but consider that you have to have a Russian visa to go there and look after your property and you have to re-register your property under occupied Russian land offices.  Not only that, Ukrainians are not welcome in Crimea.  The real kicker is how to get the rent transfered to a Ukrainian bank from the renters.

I hope the bastards in Crimea that voted for Russian rule find that their lights out and water rationed are enjoying their new ruler.   ;D

My wife talks to her (former) girlfriends in Crimea and they act like everything is wonderful, even though much of their food supplies are cut off,  the prices have skyrocketed, and they only have power for a couple hours a day.

The desire for the former Communist dictatorship is beyone my comprehension.  I have read that many of the older citizens liked it.  You don't have to think or be ambitious.  You just fit into the mold and the government will take care of you.  What a friggin life!

Doug, everything you say about Crimea is true. The problems just keep getting worse! You know, a couple of years ago I was planning to retire and live in Crimea--but all of that has changed!

USA considers Crimea to still be part of Ukraine, so to collect your social security you would have to travel in person each month to Kyiv and go to the US Embassy. To get from Simferopol to Kyiv, you would need to fly Simferopol/Moscow/some third country then Kyiv--and back again! You would probably need a visa for the third country.

The cost for food and utilities is about three times as much as it was in Ukraine. Russia has property taxes.

Such a shame!!!!!!!!!

Guys the OP is looking for a way to send money to relatives in Crimea. Please do not turn this thread into another political thread. There are literally a dozen or more active threads right now these remarks would fit

well, it's beginning to look like my original assertion is correct, the only method is the rather laborious multi-step process of a wire transfer to a non-sanctioned bank.  I presented the information here and from other sources to the mizzus as proof of due diligence on my part...  enjoy novo roosiya russkie ludie, but it sure as hell looks a lot like the starry one!  mizzus and I are soooooooooo happy to be gone!!!!! sorry in-laws!

You might be able ot use Unistream Money Transfer. The problem would be that you would need to go to their office in person, and that office could be a 10 hour drive from where you live. Anyway, you can check it out.

Unistream is a Russian company that has a few offices in America and still operate in Crimea. Krimster2 can call them to see if they can accept a wire transfer in the states and then transfer the money to Crimea instead of drive 100's of miles.

Any one know how to send money to Simferopol? I know this has been asked, but maybe someone knows how to this particular city.  Thank you in advance!
