BlackEnergy malware used in power outage hacks in Ukraine

A SECURITY and communications hack in Ukraine has put the wind up the industry and caused it to ponder whether this is the start of a new kind of attack that takes out power utilities, and thus the television and that kind of thing.
We are used to losing power and communications but it is usually through error, mishap or act of God. The seasonal assault in Ukraine might look and smell like a local problem, but the same tables could be turned in our location. This would be a bad thing.

If Israel and USA can build Stuxnet, surely smart criminal hackers can build something similar quite easily.  There are plenty of tiny VMs that run on Windows and Linux (40kbytes) that can run as a background process and then download additional code and run it.  Virtually undetectable.
