PC guru's
« on: June 25, 2006, 12:16:16 PM »
I tried to find the posts from awhile back about solving PC problems. Couldn't so I'll start this new thread. I tried to contact support before i came here and can't seem to fix the problem. When I want to display photos or even just looking at cars on ebay, the images appear patchy or splotchy like the resolution is degraded. I replaced my old crt monitor with a new lcd, not because of this problem but just because. It made no difference . I have an older (2yrs) Compaq Presario desk top and have tried to change certain settings but no results. Screen background looks good but images are as desribed. Do any of you know how to fix this?

Go to the screen settings and check the colour depth. Set it to the highest available quality (32 bits).
That should do the trick.

Start,
Try reinstalling your monitor drivers. Check on the driver.

Control Panel
Display
Monitor tab

Starz, maybe you need a graphics card. If that doesn't work, take out the persuader(a hammer) and pound away until you are forced to buy a new computer. That will solve your problem, guaranteed.

If you look at pictures offline do you get the same problem ? If yes, the answer is in your graphics card or Windows settings.
If you can view pictures offline clear but they become rasterized when using internet, the setting is in your browser.
Try to set the multimedia options of your browser or download alternatives (firefox / opera) and see if they have the same problem.

Doo not use a hammer, even a harddisk is hard to destroy with it. A bottle of Coke will do much better. ;D

Yes all photos off line are clear and vibrant. I've tried to change different settings but no change when viewing on line pics. I'm a bit dense when it comes to figuring out what to do so if you have more suggestions I need walk through instructions.  :-\

And my friend with a recent imac has been down for days...days. He needs to take his machine in for service, pay for Apple Care, they say to buy a hard drive, dump everything on the new hard drive, then upgrade the software. Never, since 1994, have I had a similar experience with a Windows machine. And I push my machines. Sorry, they've got great visual design, but poor reliability and customer service. I would transition in a minute if it weren't so. It's a lot like a pretty girl with no personality.

Ok I tried all the options and still cant get  images to appear clear. for some reason when I got to the point to reinstall drivers the only option there was to uninstall. soooooo, please enlighten me about a graphics card. That seems like it might be the next step.

So, it seem that the problem is not with driver, graphic card or system but more with the explorer...

By default, the explorer is configured for resample photo and fit them to the screen ( no more need scroll photo )... XP make this in a ugly way... when the photo is loaded, you can go over it with your mouse pointer... after a few second, some icon appear... one is for see the photo in real size, one other for print, one other for send to a friend, one other ....

You can cancel these behavior by changing  the option of your explorer... since i have stop to use windows and explorer from long time, i don't remember the name of the option... other can certainly help you...

Hey Darryl,

How about I buy a new PC and give you my old one? Of course we don't do shipping so you'll just have to come and get it... ;D

I'm actually serious about the PC. I've been wanting one for awhile but if you need one then that just gives me the motivation (and excuse) to get a new one. Sounds like a Win-Win to me.

 What dya think?

Ken-karechkee,
That sounds like a great idea. We'll just give this one to Ihor for his games. Expect us to be knockin on your door in another month. 26 days and counting till my sweetie comes home. Oh yea, be sure to delete all those porn sites and private home videos!! :o
Ya know, it's been 20 days since I left Val in good hands with mom, pop, and girlfriends. I was a bachelor for 16 years. She's been here almost a year and I can't stand the the absence of her presence in our home. Talk about a life turned upside down. We talk daily just like before she came to me but it's no where near the same. I've had other loves in my life but she's added a dimension to my life that makes this time in my life like no other I've ever experienced. Makes me feel like playing a Barry White song about now..."You're the First, Last, My Everything". ....Ok, I'll spare ya the sentiment.
Time to call Valushka. We'll talk later. BTW, Good TR so far. And Va-guns too. I thought about one when I returned but didn't think the forum would appreciate a married guys report. Obviously I was wrong. Talk later, D.

Ordered the PC today (now I just have to break the news to the boss... ::) ). You sure you want me to delete all the porn? Bummer...  ;)

Get going on that trip report! Each one of us has a different experience to share and some of these single guys might just get up off their butts and go when they hear about all the fun this is. And all of the "scenery" that there is there!

Was great talking to you last eve. Hope you can make it through the next bit of time by yourself without buying a sheep...  :o

Update......I had no success at all with troubleshooting the problem with photoresolution. So, last night purely by accident, I turned off the Netzero Hi Speed. Miraculously images started appearing sharp and crisp. Has anyone heard of this before? In my area I have access only to dial-up connection. Sad but true. anyway, when I need to look at photos on line I just turn off the hi-speed. I tried it again this morn just to make sure and yes, that seems to work. Thanks to all of you that tried to help me.
  Ken, check PM.

Yep - it's one of those 'programs' that speeds up ur dialup by dumbing down graphics, we had one in UK, not many left on dialup here tho now - we're late adopters but we when do it, we do it properly!
