An Ivy League Economics professor was escorted off a plane because the women next to him saw him doing math (specifically developing a differential equation for modeling menu pricing). This is where I have finally "flipped the bozo bit" on Average Americans. I can understand someone not schooled in higher mathematics could mistake it for an "arabic" language. But seriously, she was afraid because someone was writing in a language she couldn't read? As someone who flies very often and reads technical literature or am siting writing code on my laptop, this bothers me to no end. America has gone from a nation that help defeat Nazi Germany, to a people too easily frightened and willing to go running to the authorities to turn in people "who don't look like us".

The lady in the article over reacted to what she seen but authorities don't know how competent she is so they react if she is. If you suspected a terrorist sitting next to you, would you report it? Most bomb threats are false but if one is called in on the school your child attended, don't you think the authorities should play it safe?

The author for the Washington Post wanted to get a rise out of her readers and she was successful. The truth is millions of people fly in America everyday. Thousands are Muslims and fly without incident. People from any race can get kicked off planes for lesser reasons than terrorism. People get kicked off for being too tall, too fat, too loud, crying too much, being stinky, being too sexy, or being angry. Bin Laden win there too?

My wife and I were on a redeye last summer and in business class. Being a retired medical artist she still enjoys doing some work for a law firm she had worked for in the past.

For a few days, prior to the flight, she had been working on a a gunshot wound that entered a body and came out the other side and everything the bullet had torn up going through the body. She usually does this on her laptop in a special 3D software program in color before she does the art work on it to be presented in court. The drawings are done in layers showing every detail of the wound and can be very dramatic, especially when she paints it on a canvas using paints.

She opened her laptop and started to do some more work on it. A flight attendant saw it and asked her what she was doing, not to kick her off the plane though, but just out of interest. She told the flight attendant what she was doing, explained it to her,  and that caught the attention of some other people.

Several people came to look at it and would say yuck and laugh. One person asked me...how do you live with a lady like that and laughed.

My rely was...she was desperate and I'm probably the only one that would have her. Her response to my remark was..another medial artist may be doing the same thing to your guts that I'm doing to these guts.

She laughed and and got everyone else to laughing. I was sure glad to here that laugh, and she didn't get booted off the plane. Maybe things are calmer where we were sitting on the plane.
