The most recent Time magazine has an article about women's clothing. It mentions that the average American woman now weighs 170 lbs!

I wouldn't get caught up in statistics as they are totally irrelevant at the individual level.. Half of american women are under 170 lbs and half over.  That's all it means.  Think men are about 20 lbs on average heavier than women..

Considering longevity and an aging population it's probably no big deal.  Did you know that American men are getting shorter?

I am not attracted to obese women, but wouldn't be turned off by well proportioned 170 lbs.  Although my dating days are past I can remember a few fine experiences with women that did not have bones sticking out in odd places..  In fact the very skinny model types were more often duds, worried about what they could and could not eat at the finest restaurant in town instead of being able to really enjoy a fine dining experience to it's fullest..

Not necessarily.  It depends on what 'average' was calculated:  Mean, median or mode.

Women are free to look elsewhere for better too. When overweight men and women find themselves lonely for a long time, they may alter their eating habits or remain lonely.

Some people wanted America to fall but instead Americans are falling. Asian and Hispanic men population rate is on the rise in this country and they're naturally shorter. Percentage of European white males have dropped and many are old. We get shorter when we're old.

Yep, I'd say the weight gain is pretty much across the board.  Men, women and kids are bigger.  It is very noticeable when you go overseas and come back to the US.  It surprises me that we are living longer while still seeing the obesity that is common these days.

Right, depends on body fat percentage.   195 is pretty big if it is mainly muscle, low body fat, and you are of average height.  I don't see the average dude fitting that criteria.

Exactly, depends on BF% and most men do not fit the profile. Frank Zane was 5'9" and 195 pounds. He had the most ideal physique in the last 40 years or so they say.

Depends on build as well. I have broad shoulders so can carry a bit more weight. Hides the puza a bit 

We are 30 minutes north of Miami. I have noticed the average height down here is shorter the last few years. Mainly due to immigrants from Central America it seems.

Let's be realistic.  The average AM of 5'9" weighing 195 lbs is fat.  Just as the average AW at 5'4"  weighing 166 lbs is fat.

Weight means absolutely nothing. You need to go by BF%

If that is the case, then logically, that follows for AW as well.


However, I don't need to look at body fat.  I just need to observe, with my eyes, the average American male. 


Young people, both male and female, tend to be in great shape.  People over 40 of both sexes, as a general observation, not so much.

Of course. But men and women have different levels. Women naturally have more body fat than men. think around 7% or so more as an average. There was a study done and the average US male was at 28% while the women were at 40%.

According to the CDC women are more obese than men as well.

But yes, as a nation we are overweight and as you age it is harder to control your weight.

I see "Wal Mart" people almost everywhere. Both sexes. But you can exclude upscale shopping areas and cities. I do not find this much in Russia except maybe in villages.

Some people today are growing the largest asses I have ever seen. Mainly women. I am speaking mainly of where I live.
