I found some photos of my trip to Zap in 2013 so I thought I would share them here. Some photos of the outside of the apartment building, the local grocery store, some unusual graffiti, and then the interior of the apartment decorated in "early bordello" style.

Thanks, just as drab as I remember it. 

Does the air still have a metallic odor?   The hydroelectric dam still a tourist highlight?

That's a bit harsh, Gator.    All suburban areas of Soviet cities look like that, and it's not helped by photos being taken on a grey, overcast day.

My only worry was what any woman would have thought of the ghastly pink décor in the "early bordello" bedroom!

I once rented a very nice apartment in Odesa that had a huge mirror on ceiling over the bed.

I wasn't much enthralled by it . . . but my female visitors seemed to really like it.
