Russia is on a current military call up of Russians aged 18-30 year olds to replaced those they have previously called up. So some unfortunate young Russians will soon be joining this scene and the end of their lives also.

Essentially they need to drop conscription age to 18 as otherwise they risk not having a country to worry about rebuilding.

If Ukraine lose those front line cities then the whole Ukrainian line could completely collapse with Ukraine losing ground fast and probably struggling to re-established a new front line if at all.

Essentially Russia has been fighting at a similar pace to a world war. They are in their fourth year of doing so now and next year assuming they are still at it will be in their fifth year. So set against WWI & WWII performance they will be really hitting uncharted distances in terms of war longevity next year. All the while the Ukraine war is making them weaker and weaker doing compound damage. The Chinese must be laughing their arses off at Russia's foolishness. If Russia goes into next year with this war then seeing Russia turn into an economic weakling is going to be a hilarious sight. I would love to see Russia break up and never bother anyone again.

Chasiv Yar has fallen to Russian troops and it looks like Ukraine may have to pull it's troops out of Pokrovsk maybe by September if Russia continues to surround the city:

It looks like Russia is slowing but surely surrounding Pokrovsk so odds are it will encircle it enough for Ukraine to have to pull it's troops out. Assuming Ukraine can keep the line intact it can probably fight on ok. However with not a lot of big cities between Pokrovsk and Dnipro it is possible that Russia may push Ukrainian troops back towards Dnipro reasonably quickly.

Hopefully Ukraine have contingency plans in place for such a scenario possible with the use of mines, secondary lines of defense, etc. Of Pokrovsk falls then things aren't so good for Ukraine but there is still a hell of a lot of Ukraine to fight through so the war is potentially far from lost for Ukraine. All the while Russia is expending a lot of money, armaments & manpower on the war and exhausting itself in the process.

If Ukrainian forces are under pressure and steadily but surely losing ground then it's not without reason for hope. The Russian economy is increasingly getting into bad shape and my reasoning is still that Russia's economy won't go the distance if Ukraine can hold on overall in Ukraine even if losing ground. This latest report shows that Russia might be nearing the end as it moves to stem very high food prices with economic controls that risk the food not being on the shelves by capping the price of food and thereby removing the incentive to produce it:

It looks like Russians are struggling to buy enough food at the high prices to feed themselves so this old style measure of a command economy is being brought as a desperate measure to try and keep things going a bit longer it looks.

I could see such a cease fire deal potentially being done.

However, I don't think it would be a good idea for Ukraine or Europe, they would be left with a hostile Russia on its doorstep and likely an expensive arms race. Better for Ukraine to hold out and see the conflict to the end. Odds are the Russian economy will break before the Ukrainian Army does even if the Ukrainian Army has to give ground.

Individual circumstances may vary though on whether such a cease fire deal suits them or whether fighting on does so.
