Those were the coaches.
We know a professor who is good friends with Po Shen.  He is professor at Carnegie Mellon University; a top school.
Rudenko is a Ukrainian name, as are almost all names that end in ko.

Ukrainian in ORIGIN - but I know plenty of Russians with such an ending that go back 3 generations and can't find any UA connections

They can't because there were strong reasons to "become" Russian.
