What would you have done in the same circumstances? We all know the answer...just wondering if you'll man up and admit it.

In honest truth I wouldn't know until I'm in that situation, few do.

Sorry man, nothing like not making the grade with the guy's other half watching. I'm sure you did you're best, was just messing with you earlier.

You're REALLY going to have to work on that 'humour' of yours, Trench

In the spirit of a New Year - apology accepted ;)

The majority of Londoners would do nothing society has reached the point where it's the minority of civilians who help.  Even the emergency service personnel get abused for getting in the way of the public while helping.

Msmob totally agree trench and I live one experience near London .  I think you live in the west of UK.  Society is still more intact where you live.

Around 25 years ago I was living in Wickford,Essex with my then partner.

She used to like taking a 15 minute walk to the local train station to catch the 7-30 am to London for work.

One morning she passed out for no reason 5 minutes walk from the station and lay on the ground for 25 minutes..not one person tried to help her..they left her lying there on the pavement.

She knew many people on that short walk...dog-walkers,joggers,fellow commuters, and they always exchanged morning greetings..yet not one of them could be arsed to check if she was ok.

I find people in the UK in general to be as James and Trench find them.

I'm not sure how much that says for UK society 25 years ago or now. I'm not doubting your story - and I live up North - but I still find it hard to believe - assuming your partner did not look drunk or homeless and was dressed as if she were going to work - that not one person stopped to help in a full 25 minutes. I suppose it would have depended on foot flow and the demographic of people in that specific time and place. Just this morning I went for a walk and stopped to help a chap and his young boy push their car up hill for a considerable distance.

Nevertheless, it is why I asked Trench what he would do. His answer, he wouldn't know until it happened. He didn't say he would at least muck in and try, irrespective of the medical know-how that might required. I suspect he would have looked t'other way and carried on walking...in which case you may all be correct about where we are as a society.

Sitting in my private plated blacked out 4x4 at traffic lights i watched a guy on crutches cross the road .  Luckily I was playing attention when he collapsed or I would have run over him.  Got out and checked him over helped him up with the only other man of 50 an Irishman.  Only to screamed at by other road users for blocking the road.  Another occasion Tried to unsucessful get an 18 year old girl from under a bus with people winding down their windows to yell at us for getting in their way.  London
