VIN (Vehicle ID Number )
« on: January 26, 2019, 02:20:33 AM »
SC is now the proud owner of a new Nissan Qashqai - think it is called Rogue(?) in the US and some other markets

It is white, but this is a UK 1.5L model  of a lower spec

It's a top spec 4WD model - but I'm interested to know WHERE it was made - suspect 'Piter', Russia

Tried a free  VIN search but all I can see - " It's a Nissan " !!

Z8NFBNJ11ES xxxxxx ( 6 numbers)

Any experts ?

he sez, if your car is after 2015 it's made in Roosha, even body panels stamped there - he sez, but he's usually right...
perfect car to drive over there, I had something similar!!! Mitsubishi Colt

I think that came up when I googled  VIN for the first three letters only.  4th or 5th result was for a site for Nissan vin numbers.

Given the name "Qashqai," what your little woman has is a flying carpet.

It is the name of a large group of tribes in Iran.  They reside in the mountains and for ten centuries were nomadic shepherds.

During my two years of working for the UN in Iran, I on occasion in the mountains would see their encampments, highlighted by large black tents. The Qashqai are famous for their weavings, particularly carpets.

The people are rugged and the women wear colorful garb.   For some photos, see

I wonder how auto manufacturers choose names.  Car is similar to the Rogue but has differences.

I just read an interesting article about keyless entry/ignition car theft in the UK.  Nissan Qashqai was in the list of as 4 of the top 5 best selling cars susceptible for theft.

I googled the origin of the name and - according to Wiki 'Qashqai means "A horse with a white forehead" - based on Vasily Bartold - a expert on Turkic people !

The Nissan Rogue is what those outside N.,america would know as the very model SC has - the 4WD Qashqai Sport - checking the photos / specs ?

It is the best selling car in the UK - so I'm not surprised

BMWs and Range Rovers / Land Rovers are also at risk - as a I suspect other cars with Keyless entry systems would be

The 'smart' thing to do is to put your key in a 'faraday cage' wallet when not in use - to stop the signal being replicated . Thieves can simply stand outside your home - and if the key is close enough, duplicate the signal and drive off ? .....

Had 3 Mercedes sprinter vans stolen in 2 weeks  March 2018 using a phone app.  One week later an engine turned up in Poland.  Replaced with Peugeot as they are less desirable.

I know next to nothing about cars, but I do know that in North America, the Nissan Rogue and the Nissan Qashqai are different cars.  I've seen both on the road.  The better half tells me the Qashqai is smaller and shorter.

Demeaning to a ancient tribe of proud, nomadic people.  That's like me saying a Brit is a crustacean (Google it).

From your country's BBC Travel entitled "The Last Nomads of Iran" .................

Quote
Numbering just 400,000, the Qashqai are a strong and proud people who are fiercely resisting assimilation into mainstream Iranian society.

But maybe Nissan meant a horse when naming your woman's car.  After all,   Ford years ago had a subcompact model named "Pinto," which is a pony, frequently with white on its head.

Regarding size,  in North America the Rogue is larger and more expensive.  UK and the FSU may have designed the models differently, the same as McDonald's does with its burgers internationally.

Nissan says the Qashqai is the "perfect size and utility for young, active lives..." That sounds ideal for your woman, and that is the most important point.

I cannot see anything 'demeaning' in Bartold's explanation of the meaning of Qashqai !

OK, I think I can put this to bed !

The N.American   Rogue Sport is a Nissan Qashqai ...SC has a Sport variant of the Qashqai - hence looking the same - because essentially - they are ! ;)

http://eu.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2017/06/16/review-nissan-rogue-sport-sized-priced-just-right/102875454/

"Slightly smaller than the Rogue, the new 2017 Nissan Rogue Sport is coming to dealers"

"Don’t confuse the Rogue Sport with the larger and more expensive Rogue SUV that already is Nissan’s best-selling vehicle. They use the same platform, but the Sport is significantly smaller, lighter and less expensive."

"Rogue Sport is about a foot shorter than the standard Rogue. Under another name — the Scrabble-winning Qashqai — the Sport already is a star in Europe, where its easy-to-park size, good visibility, and useful interior make it the small SUV of choice"

Hi Boetjius

I think we reached consensus

The Rogue Sport is a Qashqai to the rest of the world - the Rogue is a larger SUV closely related to the Qashqai
