This may be true.  I had a woman call me , last evening, and asked me if there was any medication, prescrption, or over the county, that would decrease her husband's sex drive.  She was very unhappy, when I told her that there was not.

When I was a teen the story was that Salt Peter would do it. (not sure I am spelling that right)  The rumor was they gave it to soldiers in their food to keep them out of trouble.   I think at the time I read it in some reliable sources.   I believe chemicaly that is Potasium Nitrate and one way or the other it is of the components of gun powder along with sulfer and charcoal.  It could probably be purchased at a drug store, at least when I was a kid we bought it there.  (No we were not trying to curb our sexual appetite.  We were making rocket fuel out of it)

Potasium Nitrate, Sodium Nitrate and Sodium Nitrite are all used as food preservitives for meats.  If you read the labels you can see this.  During WW2, the canned rations that the army used contained these chemicals.  The part about lowering sex drive is not clear.

To make old fashioned black gun power:

75% by weight finely granulated Potasium Nitrate
15 % powdered charcoal
10% powdered Sulfur

Grind each item seperately before carefully mixing together.  Friction can cause the whole mix to explode.

To make more powerful gun powder,  use Potasium Clorate or Potasium Super Clorate.

When I was a kid, the man living across the street was into making mussel loading rifles and hand guns.  My dad had a lathe and helped him make the barrels.  This was before this type of weapon became popular for hunting, and there were no kits or completed weapons for sale.  Also, you had the make your own gun power.  Actually, some of my friends and I used the blue tips from strick anywhere wood matches to make a very powerful gun powder. 

I remember Basil and my dad test shooting the guns in Basil's basement.  The room was full of smoke and the strong smell of sulfur.  Basil's wife, Evelyn, started yelling at him to stop the shooting.  It's a wonder the neigbors did not call the police.  Of course, that was before 911.  The more Evelyn yelled, the more gun powder they used to test the weapon.  You needed to use 3 or 4 times the normal amount of powder to test the weapon and make sure it would not explode into pieces.  Of course, they held the gun in a vise and used a long string to pull the trigger from a safe distance. 

Basil was a cool guy!  He was a craftsman and decorated the guns and made them into works of art.  They had five children, and this was before birth control, so I guess the hobbys kept Basil from thinking about sex.  He was into hunting, big time, and competive shooting events.

So I concur, Potasium can lessen sex drive.

The Italian Army was more considerate (not wanting their recruits to blow up), and allegedly used Potassium BROMIDE in lieu of saltpetre .

Who cares about HS..  worry about life and limb instead. 

Messing with this stuff can decrease your sex life permanently.  The best position to use mortar and pestle by holding it between your knees..

I used to dig up and dispose of the nastiest leftovers of war..  Messing around with these recipies (and fireworks btw) is much more dangerous.

I know such info can be found in many places on the net but wouldn't want RWD to be the source for someone that got hurt or worse.

Be responsible and delete the ingredients/instructions.

don't know about that Louie.  Spent a lot of time mixing up things that could blow a body part off.  Was into rockets as a kid, before ready made ones.  Mixed up a lot of gunpowder and a lot of zink dust and sulfer which was our other main fuel.  Played with liquid rockets too.  Sure glad my parents weren't around when I came darn close to burning the house down.  They always wondered where the black came from.  Had my picture on the cover of Popular Mechanix for launching rockets.  Well, a picuture of my back anyway.

Heck, that was my dream as a kid, to be a rocket scientist.  If I had, it probably would have really impacted the space industry and we would have landed a man on the moon years ago.   Maybe that is why I don't do better with FSU women.  I try to make it rocket science.  OK, enough off topic, lets talk about women again.

I only have one answer to that question - Who in hell would want one??? Everybody here, at least those that can afford it, are buying Ford, Chevrolet & BMW. Lada & Kamas are deffinitly not on their list of Christmas Gifts! We just had a new Chevrolet Dealership open up just down the street from us, just like being back home, LOL.
I can send you a Lada or two if you really want but I won't guarrantee how long they will hold together!!!

Aw, c'mon Richard... Ladas aren't that bad.  You have to give them points  for the sheer simplicity of their design; not to mention that most parts are interchangeable over a period of decades.  Plus you can fix them with duct tape and baling wire

On the other side of the coin is the awful truth that despite having built the exact same car for the past 35 years they still haven't figured out how to keep them from rusting, or how to make an automatic transmission, or design a heating system that can be turned completely off when it's not needed, or install an electrical system that doesn't make the front parking lights come on when you step on the brake, or...

It makes no difference to me.  Everytime I'm ready to buy a car in Russia, I take a ride in a car...   No thanks, I'll stick with buses and trains
