Document translation by a certified translator?
« on: August 21, 2006, 06:53:59 PM »
I'm in the process of putting together my I129-F, and I must include a copy and translation of my fiancee's divorce decree.

The instructions explicitly state:

Translations. Any foreign language document must be accompanied by a full English translation that the translator has certified as complete and correct, and by the translator's certification that he or she is competent to translate the foreign language into English.

I'm thinking the easiest way to do this is to have the decree translated here in the US by a certified translator. I know there are some users here who advertise translation services. If you're certified and willing to help, please PM me with your rates. Or if you're an American who's now married to a Russian women who divorced before she came to the US, I'd be grateful for recommendations on a translation service.

Hey Groov,

When we did this I found a local Synagogue that also worked with Russian (Jewish) Immigrants and they had a certified translator that was over 50% cheaper than anything else I found around. Might want to check around to see if there is something similar.

When you see what you get for your money you will realize what a rip off most of the translation services are.

There was one here that posted about 11 months ago that was a very inexpensive translation service.   They were something like $ 15.00 which is far better than you will usually find but for all they do I am sure they can do it profitably.   Dig back though the product and services section.  Somewhere around last August or Sept, or do a search.

Actually you can have anyone do the translation.  All they really have to do is provide a statement that they are fluent in both languages and capable of doing a proper translation.  You could also check with Jet or Doug Salem.  Their wives could possibly do it for you for a reasonable fee.

I mailed my I129F, G325F, and all related docs on Thursday. Man, what a job...

Uh Oh! You've gone and done it now!  ;D

Keep us in the loop as to how things are progressing.
