Local agencies?
« on: August 22, 2006, 06:28:30 PM »
In reading these fora, I've noticed a lot of the more experienced folk recommending local agencies over the big database services, which makes a lot of sense . . . lower rates (presumably), local knowledge, and face to face service once you're there.

Question is (and I'm spinning off another recent thread here) is there a database or particular method of finding a (reasonably) trustworthy local agency in a given city?

Say I wanted to see if *whistling innocently* someone from, oh, Rostov-na-Donu was ALSO listed with a local agency? How would I proceed?

Thanks, Boar

How about just asking her? As for small reputable agencies, I've
never seen an objective compilation online. Again, perhaps the best
way is to nail down a target zone, like Rostov, and begin to ask around.

Thanks for the reply, Vaughn, but . . . you're kind of missing my point.  ::)

I'm looking for a different agency through which to ask the hypothetical her anything rather than going through the large, bad reputation megadatabase she hypothetically appears on.

I think that's what I'm doing.  Isn't it?

Boar,

Perhaps you could tell the big agency in question that you are making a trip to the "area in question" and would like to know who their local agency contact is case you need a back up plan. You can then at least do some research on this local branch and perhaps go around the big agency if you like what you see with the local contact.

Also, ask here about any info for a particular area as someone might just have a local agency they have worked with in the past.

Tex you have answered a very good question and I think the most direct answer is no, there is no such list. Independent list that is. There are some agencies who will pay certain sites  (usually anti-scam sites)  to "list them in there top 10 recommended agencies".

Some of the more experienced guys here will be able to recommend some of the smaller agencies they used or even heard about. Now if there is any downside to the more experienced guys recommendations is they may be made from personal experience from 4, 6, 8 years ago. Owners/managers change.

Some of the newlyweds and recently engaged will also have some very valid recommendations from agencies, many of which are smaller types, that they have used maybe in the past year or two.

So as I often say one of the secrets to success in this pursuit is,........education. Read all you can. Learn as much as you can from those who have gone before you.
You read this site over a few weeks, make notes, come back with questions you have may not be a bad start either.

I also look for these same type smaller agencies and seek any and all information I can get. Probably on average 2 or 3 times a month a guy will just write me to tell me about the good experience he had with an agency. Often times I read of guys recommending agencies and I write these guys private messages. On our upcoming trip I will be meeting four new marriage agency owners in Kharkov, Zaporozhye, Kherson and Nikolaev. Hopefully in the next 6 months I can add some of these new agencies to the 33 current small to mid-size marriage agencies I work with in Ukr, Russia, Belarus.

Texas Boar,

Have you been to Russia yet?

It's been my experience that Russian women are among the most approachable in the world.  I think any man who has worked in Russia would agree with me on that score.  They are extremely easy to meet.  Many will approach you if they hear English spoken, they love to practice speaking English with a native speaker.

All Russian women are suckers for a foreign man who asks for help or directions in his pisspoor broken Russian.  If you think RWs have a cute accent when speaking English, wait till you see how they react to your accent when you try to speak Russian,,, it absolutely drives 'em wild.  One of the benefits of meeting one RW is that RWs are great networkers, they will have a hundred girlfriends which you will get to know in short order.  Finding a g/f in a city like Moscow or Kiev may be the least of your worries.

Press on with your plans to travel, I don't think you are going to have much trouble meeting women.

That would make an interesting thread, what RW think of our accent and their networking and ease at meeting them.

JB, I haven't even decided if I want to pursue this, for sure.  I'm still researching the notion and pondering the options.

Suitable, marriageable partners are in short enough supply where I live and work, however, that looking for a wife halfway around the world isn't that far-fetched an idea at all. And I do love Slavic features on a woman . . . first serious girlfriend in my teens was South Dakota "Bohunk," and half the profiles everywhere look just like her!

Boar,

The largest population of "Bohunks" (otherwise known as "squareheads") in Texas is around El Campo. They even still speak the language there amongst themselves.  If you live in south TX you might want to check it out.  52 miles southwest of Houston on highway 59, IIRC.  However, you should not confuse a "bohunk" with a Russian, they are two entirely different creatures.

If, as you state, you are merely testing the waters about FSU ladies, then we have probably already given you TMI.   You will only know for sure once you get your passport stamped over there.

Good luck to you.

Very simple... they are free and so, they don't make any control... I have never pay for a agency and always use free site... but free site are not for the internet virgin, they have a good share of scammer... if you are a self made man, having some knowledge over the MOB business, a free site is perfect... if you are the full newbies, never go outside your own street, use a agency.. agency have scammer too but in lower rate... usualy, little one are more able to make more strong control...

Good to know!

She always told me it was slang for "Bohemian," and---from later learning---I thought perhaps they were actually Wendish? German Slavs? At any rate, it's those doe eyes and full lips that get me every time. I'll make a point of stopping in El Campo for a bit next time I'm over to Houston for sure!

Been a long time since I came across anyone who knew the term, JB.  :)

Aaah, okay. Didn't know that. The Wends were just over the border into Germany I believe . . . there's a Wendish community up by La Grange, where I like to vacation.

There're Czech and Polish communities up between Pettus and Seguin as well, I'm told---Kosciusko, Cestohowa, and Panna Maria in particular.  I believe they still have church services in Polish and Czech up there.

May not have to go quite as far after all, lol.  ;D
