Peewee's quick trip report
« on: August 24, 2006, 07:59:39 PM »
Not a Groover when it comes to trip reporting but I will say this. If anyone is looking for an inexpensive yet romantic destination then Cairo is the where to go spot.

My British Airways flight arrived Cairo from London on time. Considering that every airport in London was still aglow from the past week's events I was amazed that both me and my luggage arrived on time and intact.

Fortunate for me my friend Aymen met me in baggage claim. I had arrived at Terminal 2 while Lena's Aeroflot flight was to arrive one hour later at Terminal 1. Had it not been for my friend I would not have made the trip from one to the other in time.

Something that I noticed as Aymen and I watched the Aeroflot arriving passengers pass us by is that the Russian ladys dress to travel. No jeans like you see on American flights. They all looked good. Aymen asked me what Lena would look like but I told him that I had only seen a photo of her. Knowing that RW are tricky with the photos (her best from 4 years ago) I figured that I would be lucky to recognize her. She did tell me what she would wear so I told Aymen to look for a woman wearing black.

One woman wearing black did passes by us but I did not think it was her. Aymen turned to watch her pass by us and said, "Nice." Then he said, "I think that is her."  "No," I replied. So he goes over the woman and asks her. It was her. LOL! I hope it was her otherwise I just spent 9 days with someone else.

It was now 3 am. Our hotel was a 1 hour drive. One of Aymen's drivers drove us to the hotel with one stop for me to buy a SIM card for my phone. By the time we had arrived at the hotel I had layed enough cash into the palms of a number of lads who had helped me that Lena remarked, "Peevee, you must be careful. You will spend all of your money." She really does call me Peevee.

When I checked us in I gave the guy at the front $20.00 for no reason. When we arrived at our room I got the money/tip lecture again. I told Lena to listen and learn. When Peevee rolls he rolls with style. The room was not the best the hotel had to offer. I got a view of the alley behind the hotel.

We drank a toast with champagne but before we had even finished the the first glass the phone range. The guy who I gave to 2o to asked how I liked the room. I did not like the fact that we had two twin beds. So I told him.

"We will change your room," he said. Moments later came the guy to pack our luggage. I had given him one tip already and now I had to give him another one. So we moved. That room as almost the same but with one bed this time. We poured another round of the bubbly. Again the phone rings. It is the guy at the front desk again. "how is your room?" I have learned many years ago that both airlines and hotels are eager to please and if I can figure out somehow how they can inconvience me then i get more service for my money. I got moved to the upper deck lounge on my BA flight from Seattle because I checked in late on a full flight. They had given my seat away to I had to be moved to first. See what I mean?

Now the guy I had given the 20 to asked was how I liked the room? I told  him that it was ok but that I had hoped to have at least a view of the pool. Five minutes later the luggage guy is back and we are now moving to our third room. This one was great. Two huge king beds and to top that off a balcony over looking a beautiful flowered garden and beyond a perfect view of the largest pyramid in Egypt. I told Lena not to bug me anymore about the tipping. That little 20 had gotten us from the cheapest room in that 5 star hotel to the best one.

Bed time by then. For the next 6 days we went everywhere. The weather was hot but I soon forgot about the heat. Aymen had provided us with one  of his drivers. It is very helpful and I will recommend that anyone who travels to Egypt that you spend a few dollars and hire a guide. I had done that but after a few days of paying for the tours that the guide had taken a liking to Lena and I and stopped charging us for the tours. Plus we had Aymen and his driver Ahmen at our disposal. I had to think about nothing but to enjoy the sights of Ciaro.

We spent about 9 days touring. Horse and camelback rides out into the desert. Mummys, tombs, daily smoking of Sheesha in just about every back alley hole in the wall that we could find. Because of Aymen we really did see Egypt through the eyes of an Egyptian.

So here it is.  Egypt is a good destination if you are looking for inexpensive romance and great sight seeing. I will give to you the name of my friend Aymen who owns a large tour company in Cairo. He will give the you best tours that Cairo has to offer. The Eqyptian people are among the most friendly and honest in the world. I had a fellow actually chase me down the street to give to me change because I have over paid  him for a carton of cigarettes that I had bought for our driver ($18.00) Cheap everything. Only the tours cost a little more.

Lena was a great attraction for the local boys. The short skirts and the pointy Russian heels are a good thing for those boys to see. And those RW do tend to stick out like a sore thumb, as they say, for just those reasons.

Nice post PeeWee.  It sounds like you had a great trip and a nice time.  The only thing you did not say was much about what lies ahead with Lena.   Any chance she might be the one or are you back to hunting?  Of course there is the option that you don't really know yet.

I could not detect a flaw in her, Turbo. I could resort to being very picky and find one or two. She is a little older than I was searching for and a little shorter than I like but the true qualities out weigh the phyical ones. A woman full of patience, intellect. She knew how many US presidents were left handed, and their names. I don't even know how many presidents there were.

We know that FSU women are feminine. Her femininity stood out like a neon sign on the streets of Cairo. More than twice as we walked along I would hear an Egyptian comment to me, "Lucky man." Things you do not often hear when walking with a woman in the US.

It turns out not only does she speak English but Italino and the real shocker...Arabic as well. Our guide spoke Arabic, Italian, and English. When we would meet for Sheesha and backgammon I was the only moron who spoke but one language. I found out about the Arabic when I over heard her swearing at a camel...in Arabic. She did not even tell me about it. I had to hear it in the streets, as they say.

I'll email a few photos to you Tubro.

You did hear me say that I would not even think of marriage for this trip...and I stuck to that plan. We did talk about our next meeting. I was thinking maybe May in Astrakhan. She was thinking December. I told her that I would think about it. In the end I do think she is about the best of the 4 or 5 RW that I have yet to date. But I am historicaly slow to decide anything so I figure about the time she has long decided that I am hopeless then it will dawn on me that she was the one and that it is too late. LOL.

PeeVee, (you knew that was coming didn't you...  ::) )

Sounds like you both had a good time! She's a good looking lady. 4 languages! I'm like TG I guess, still working on getting English right...  ;D You've got time for your decision, but not all the time in the world. There is a touchy balancing act between jumping too soon and waiting too long. Good Luck and keep us informed on your progress.

Thanks, Catman. Yes, luck is what it was. I met her by posting my profile on the Elena site. She wrote me. I thought about it for a few weeks and then wrote back. Have not regreted those two decisions since.

I did learn about waiting too long with the Aeroflot FA. Just about the time I was ready to talk to her about marriage she told me that she was heading in a different direction. This is where I learned that RW are faster to the plate with regard to relationships than WW are. That was about 2 years ago. So what do you suppose was waiting for me on my voice mail when I returned home? Yeah, a message from the FA to please call her. I have not yet decided if I will call her or not. Maybe better to let the sleeping dog lay, as they say.

Thanks, Turbodude. One thing that I like about her is that she has a religious exercise routine. Swimming and jogging. Because she is an MD she also thinks alot about her diet. I learned that I drink far too much Coke. Apparently it will kill me. This was good sound medical advice I think.

My understanding is that if you take a raw steak and pour Coca Cola all over it that it will eat away the meat in a few days.  Never wanted to waste a good steak to find out.   There are things that will kill you faster and some people think they are more fun.

In a previous life as a junior chemical researcher (early 1960s), out of curiosity I measured Coca Cola's pH : turned out to be 2.5, IIRC. Hope they toned it down a bit since then ;).

Peewee,

Could you send me a PM with you Cairo contact?  Presently, I'm spending 2 weeks in Jeddah and 2 weeks in Boston on business of course...not for a tan.  My visa is only good for 14 days, so there is a possibility, I might need to take a quick trip to either Dubai or Cairo to get my passport stamped on my late September trip.

Thanks,

Todd

In a previous post you made the comment that we will be on holiday at the same time but in different places and I was under the impression you were going to Prague!

So How it happened and you went to Cairo instead?

the agency in Astrakhan took so long to set up the tour and then wanted only to be paid in cash that by the time I swiched to a Moscow agency I ran out of time to get the Czech visa. With the little time remaining I could then only choose a country that did not require a visa. Egpyt was a prefect choice. I first made sure that I could change my air tickets to Cairo because most flights being full it was hard to do but I did it. I found a great hotel in Cairo and then booked her flights from Astrakhan to Moscow to Cairo and back through Red Star Travel (my go to Russian travel agency located here in Seattle). I then had Red Star deliver the tickets to Aeroflot in Astrakhan. It worked like a charm.

I have a friend who runs a large tour business in Cairo. He met us at the airport and then spent the next nine days with us. Next time we will live in one of his flats. Maid, cook, driver, TV, airconditioning...why would I not do that? In the end it was the right choice to make.

I will send a few photos to you via email. You do the same as I would like to see a little of your holiday as well.

Thanks for the explanations and glad that you changed and went to Egypt.
Sure you enjoyed there better despite the hot weather.

Your Lena looks very nice.

Of course I will let you have my photos from Corfu and I must apologise to everybody for not posting any report yet about my holiday in Corfu with Olga, which was excellent.

I have been very busy with a very beautiful doctor from Russia who was here for holidays.......and tomorrow is going back home! Sorry boys.....but promise soon to post both my experiences.
you will love my photos from Corfu and here is an example of what to expect....

An interesting trip Peewee.  Whats the max temperature?  Planning to meet her in her home town yet?

I think it was near 100F. All I know is that each day I would buy a bottle of water. I would drink some of it and then I would dump the rest of it onto my head. That seemed to cool me down. But for Lena her city averages 42C plus in the summer so Cairo was a cooler climate for her.

Meet in her town? We talked about that today. I think I will go there in May. Now is too soon and December to March is too cold. She tells me the sand storms are prevelent in April. May seems to be the best time to visit before the temperature climbs into the 40s and above.
