Travel & Work summer program
« on: August 25, 2006, 10:37:09 PM »
I talked to my ukrainian friend today and she told she is planning to come to the U.S. next summer. I ask how?
She told me a little about "Travel & Work summer program" for students. She wants to come here and work in the summer and then return to UA
Where can I read moe about this program on the internet?

Is there an agency that would help them find work and a place to live in the United States?

Does anyone know anything about this program?

Regards

There are such programmes for young people 18-30 ages WORK & TRAVEL USA,( 2-4 month of working give you a right to spent in the USA one month in traveling)  AU-PAIR,( 6-12 months of working with kids in famelied and you get a right for 1 free month)  and etc - with J1 visas

But such journey costs money - minimum $ 1500  ;D so don't be surprised if she tells you in the last moment she has not them  ;D

Ps "Work$Trave"l has an obligatory request that candidate would be a student of some Univercity with  so called "face date time " programm But such programms with their exams seccison in June and obligation to return to Sep 1 to a study hardly feet in work sheduler that Work$Travel offers So I personaly have not idea how it all works but do know it works  ;D

Lena's son is now here in the US with this program. He settled in NY. It is not so easy for these students it seems. He arrived but had to find his own housing, transportation, and job. That took him 3 weeks or so. He had to have enough pocket money to live on until his plan came together. This is his second consecutive summer in the US with this program.

I've been to the US 2 years ago on W&T program. But that time my visa was valid for 5 months since april till the end of September. But now i know they made the rules stricter so you're obliged to return to the University for the beginning of studies - so they issue visa now only for 3 months. I lived first in the student hostel but for the last 1.5 months i had to find another room. First i worked on the contract but a month after i left (though it's not allowed according to the program and as many students leave they also stricted their rules and can annule your visa - so a pesron will be out of status - if you quite your job) and worked in some other places. Usually students have 2-3 works to pay their parents back because really it takes around $2000.
And i had the agency that worked with my papers, sent them to the embassy etc.

Zmejka - little kite? Nice to hear of your firsthand experience
with this program - and I'd like to read more about your story
in the "Icebreakers" Introduction section - how you ended up
in Holland, etc...
