If Putin isn't right, he should be.     If we (The US) are going to compete we are going to be on a much leveler playing field than we used to be.  To be frank, as a nation, I don't think we are up to the task.  Too many other people are hungry to succeed while many here are entitled and/or lazy.

Russia controls the southern Caucasus - part of Georgia is effectively occupied, Armenia/Azerbaijan have Russian peacekeepers and won't stray too far out of line. Assad has control of almost all of Syria thanks to Russia. Turkey is a bit of a loose cannon but won't go beyond a certain point. Russia has Ukraine in a checkmate. It controls Crimea and the frozen conflict in the Donbas basically prohibits Ukraine from joining NATO. Any attempts to support a coup in Belarus failed. The USA has reduced influence in Central Asia and Russia has close ties with China. The US government strategically erred in pushing Russia and China closer together.

Europe is weak and divided, Nord Stream 2 is happening, Russia (and China) appears to have superior hypersonic weapons and the USA is clearly concerned with the abilities of S-400 (and S-500) systems. Russia's debt situation and terms of trade is in a far more healthy position that the USA. As the world moves away from USD-denominated trade it weakens American influence. Russia is barely distracted by internal politics while it is a shit show in Washington.

I doubt the USA and Russia will go head-to-head in a conflict but Russia has already demonstrated dominance in regional or proxy conflagrations.

Russia is no longer the broken, looted, bankrupt state it was 20 years ago. Flawed yes, but capable.

The Russian's and Chinese? There is less than zero trust between them. China wants
Siberia and Russia knows it. China signed gas and oil deals but didn't want to pay
when the global price went down. Both Russia and China want to control Venezuela's
oil and both have paid billions and they both got little or nothing for it.

Russia sold billions and billions of military hardware to India. China punches India in
the nose every couple of years, who will that hardware be used against?

Russia and China are rivals, bitter rivals. The perceived closeness is a ruse.

I agree with your points except for China.

It's not worth the money or danger to American troops to try to project US power
and influence to countries that border Russia. None of those countries have an
interest vital to the USA. The US could never in history project military power
that close to Russia.

Russia has  3,810 tanks in the area bordering China in addition, Russia can deploy 4,500

If Putin told the Euro press that it is well known that Biden took payola from Ukraine
that could set back US diplomacy years. I think that Putin prefers to compete on the
world stage against a weak and corrupt Biden, so I doubt that he will say anything
that explosive.

Team Biden would have to pivot away from Ukraine and Georgia is such a claim was
made.

I don't really care about Biden's "payola".  What I care about is that Ukraine not be dragged into disputes it is not a part of.

The US is the second largest emitter of carbon in the world, so I also disagree it was taken advantage of in the Kyoto and Paris Accords.  I have issues with both in terms of letting China off the hook so easily, but on a per capita basis, its carbon use is roughly half that of the US.  Every country must do its share.

On NATO, I disagree.  The US benefitted greatly from NATO and the Marshall Plan.  Without both, the US dollar would not have been used as an international standard.  Foreign troops would not have been in Afghanistan, a truly United States exercise, without NATO. 

Personally, I believe NATO's time passed when the USSR collapsed, but American leadership saw it as strategically in their interests.  We probably don't have the full picture.

The Marshall plan has been over for 69 years. The Soviet Union has been over for
29 years. You are offering a False Dilemma. You asked for examples of how the
USA was screwed by Euro Deals and I provided them. Your dilemma is never
having ANY NATO deals or ANY Euro deals OR the USA gets screwed. Those
aren't the only two options, unless you are a Democrat US politician.

I wasn't trying to rope Ukraine in on Biden's corruption.  I was trying to point out
that Putin knows all about it and Biden is compromised.
