Other fast-growing areas in the U.S. were fueled by the energy boom, particularly in North Dakota, where McKenzie County was the country’s fastest-growing county. Its population increased by 131% from 2010 to 2020. Nearby Williams County, North Dakota, grew by 83%.

Other fast-growing areas in the U.S. were fueled by the energy boom, particularly in North Dakota, where McKenzie County was the country’s fastest-growing county. Its population increased by 131% from 2010 to 2020. Nearby Williams County, North Dakota, grew by 83%.

It grew by 500-700% when the boom was over most people left so they ONLY had a
83-131% net increase. They still have oil wells and production, they built a gasoline
refinery and a ton of infrastructure.

Enormous population decline for whites overall in the US.  down to 57% overall in 2020, much less than what was projected.  The reality is probably even a lower number, due to non reporting people.  Population loss of around 5 million overall.  As the older whites die out, so does a great deal of the republican base.   Next census the nation will likely be around 50% white, as the decline continues to accelerate.   The dwindling conservative base is going to have to change it's image to survive.

If you listen to those who understand the data, they are questioning this supposed drop in whites.

Apparently there was also unexpected rise in some other categories which indicated those who in previous census had classified themselves as white chose some other categories this  time around, particularly the 'other' category or 'mixed.'

I think the reality is the white population is dropping and dropping fast.  If you look at the younger portion of the populace they are majority non-white now.   Over 80, majority white and fading fast.  A large number in that category will be dead by the next census count, to be replaced by younger non-whites.

In addition, the immigration from south of the border is massive.  It seems not many whites from abroad are all that interested in immigrating to the US and working like the people south of the border.  Also younger whites are having between 0-2 children by and large, and at least some are mixing with other races.  This is also a contributing factor in the decrease. 

To your earlier point, some of the people that categorized themselves as 'white' in the past may have found a more accurate choice now.

The white population isn't dropping. The percentage of the population that is white
is dropping. The USA has a huge advantage over Europe. We have a largely uneducated
Christian population relocating to the USA. They have a largely uneducated Muslim
population relocating to Europe. 

Most of our immigrants have the same core values as we do.
