Looks like we are in trouble. Again, processed foods are to blame I think... in Russia, I think that they are doing better than we are.

No wonder the ladies are pretty... good food = good looks!

I don't have an argument with you there.  One thing me and the Mrs agreed on, is when she move in, the kitchen will be in her control.  Than means she has the final word over what food comes in the house.  In the supermarket, I'll give her the money and she buys what every she sees fit for the home.

No way about that! It's equality in the kitchen for me as I do enjoy cooking ... of course, I would want to find a match who would be agreeable to the type of foods that I enjoy (no fast food, if at all)... good solid traditional, creative cuisine.

Anyways, the obesity rate in Russia is around 25% and I think the overweight rate is close to 40% (you look it up, I'm too lazy right now, but I've seen this before). It's not too far from the rates here in the USofA.

What you'll be hard pressed to see in Russia is the extremely obese folk you see here dwelling at the Golden Corral or All You Can East Sizzler Buffet. Body mass of 30.0 is obese? That ain't nothing! But, Russia has it's fair share of overweight folk. You won't notice them because you'll be too busy staring at the 18-25 year old slim hotties, but they are there.

But forget about all these silly statistics. You don't want to end up dating an overweight broad right? Here's what you do: Do NOT ask a fat woman out on a date. That's it. It's simple and it works every time.

Now if you want to keep your Russian bride forever slim, that's another problem, but you can start with not feeding her Russian cuisine. Not feeding her at all works too.

Yep.. I think in FSU it's all the walking that does the talking..  In the lands of assisted mobility where you drive to the other end of the mall and the main form of physical exertion is in the bedroom, you can carry her over the threshold on the way in, but on the way out may have to revert a wheelbarrow and exit via the garage.

All kidding aside, even after pregnancy wifey is right back to where she started and I gained 20 lbs.  I think in general FSU women tend to take more pride in maintaining their appearance.

I really am big on the fitness aspect because it will affect the generations I will be propogating when my "master plan" to create more Alfies and Alfettes will be fulfilled [j/k]. On a serious note, I really do believe that its an individual choice to want to be healthy or be conscious of it and so I would want to choose someone who falls in the same line of thinking as me.

Jooky is correct. Russian women are second only to the US on terms of overweight. OTOH Russian men are very rarely overwight.

Another point to consider is that US women become porkers about 10 years earlier than their Russian sisters so what you see, in Russia, is not what you get.

Now, if you lived in Estonia you would be living in a country where just 9% of the population are considered overweight and the most common thing a rude person shouts might not 'go on a diet fatty' but 'go get a meal, girl!'

Having seen some of the awful stuff they eat dripping with fat etc, it is a mystery to me how they are slim at all! - Russian Cookbooks keep appearing every visit - I think she needs a good ol' UK healthy eating cookbook.

Although, I am advised that we will be eating salad with everything!

Again, one needs to remember that it's processed food that's the culprit. I ate all types of stuff but I hardly gain much weight. It's because I stick to organic foods which haven't gone through the wringer.

One needs to know that fast food restaurants use processed foods with additives and chemicals... the body can't process those correctly so it becomes added to the body as deposits.

On the other hand, FSU has much less processed foods to worry about. So it's better over there.

Very funny post, Jooky (on the phone survey).

My wife has more control over her weight than anyone I have ever met.  She doesn't eat any potatoes ever (what the hell kind of Russian did I marry?) and will only eat natural organic foods.  Her weakness (and we all have them) is sweets.  But if she indulges on sweets, she is working out hard the next day.  I think she keeps her weight in a range + or - 2 ounces.  ???  We also spoke the other day about McDonalds in Russia and she claims that the food is much better there than here because it doesn't have the additives and perservatives.  But I think she looks great!

You know "salad" is right? It's a bowl of mayo with bits of other stuff in it. Very healthy. You should stick to toad in a hole.

You finally hit on something accurate, some Russian women do love sushi. Moscow is full of sushi bars and sushi is served alongside Russian treats in many restaurants. Of course many Moscow style sushi rolls include mayo. You can't forget the mayo!

It would be cool to live in FSU but unfortunately it would be hard to get Leica/Nikon service for my cameras as well as missing the Apple store. Those are two factors which run me against it!

Seafood generally is something - she eats fish almost every day, I am not a big fish fan, I prefer a nice Fillet (is that a tenderloin in the US? - educate me someone?) - I am further advised that my fish consumption will increase!

She arrives on Friday for good this time, in 2 weeks I may be 10kg lighter - watch this space!

won't be considered kosher for a regular diet. But it's quick to make and it has Russian mustard so I guess that I will be fine.

Of course, I love Asian cooking and would suppose that many RW would enjoy the occasional brunch of healthy stir fry veggies.

While on the subject of Kosher, that's the kind of meal I request for my flights.  I'm far from being Jewish, but like it much better than the standard TV dinners everybody esle gets.  The other upside, is I usually get my meal before the other passengers.  It's funny when people ask me if I'm a Jew.

Indeed, what is stunning was when I learned that Jewish kosher is very similar to Islam halaal. No pork and other foods plus tobacco and alcohol for Muslims. For my church, it's no tea, coffee, alcohol, cigarettes, and so on. It's good to be free of the plague of addictions in my case.

Also, it's really interesting when you get to see similarities amongst all of the cultures and religions.
