Thanks to Trench who mentioned this book here some months ago.
I did purchase the book and recently completed reading it.
It was my 'bathroom reading material' for quite some time !!  :-)
I can give it a strong recommendation, as have many rating sites.

The book is quite lengthy and goes into great detail for many events, although it really can't get too deep since it covers from 5 BC up to 2021.

You will not, of course, be able to remember all of what you read but some events and people will stick in your mind.

My most vivid feeling relates to the terrible tragedies that the Ukrainian people and their land has suffered repeatedly over the centuries.

If only they had just been left alone . . . .

I have always really loved Ukranian culture, especially Ukranian folk songs
And yes they have a very painful history
