Where is Leslie?
« on: September 07, 2006, 07:00:15 PM »
I shared a couple of PM's with Leslie last month and he is not a bad guy. He gave me sound advice about what kind of things to post and he disappears for nearly a month. Anyone heard anything about him? It was difficult for me to deal with his directness at times but he did give sound advice in many instances. I hope everything is ok, it kind of makes me worry a bit when a regular RWD contributer suddenly disappears. There must be a logical reason.

Perhaps after the insults and abuse he took here by a number of posters, he decided it isn't worth his time or effort to share his experiences or knowledge?  If that's true, I certainly wouldn't blame him...

I hope it is just that.   I think we all worry when someone who is usually around it not.  I will admit that Leslie recieved a lot of insults but I think he dished out a lot more then he recieved.

I never read any of Leslie's post.  I would like to know.  Perhaps, he will return.

I don't think Lesley was worried about the insults...... maybe can't be bothered any more.....or he is on Holidays somewhere!

Comeback Lesley..... I like your straight talking and not a lot of flannel that comes from the other site of the pont!

I think you can forget about seeing posts from Leslie for quite awhile.

Sounds like you know something the rest of us don't.  Is it something you can share or too personal?  I think the real intent of the thread was in the hopes he is ok and nothing bad happened to him.  Perhaps if you can not share the details you can say. "he is ok"

I do not wish bad things for anyone and I am very concerned when someone leaves suddenly. Maybe it was brewing for a long time. I agree with Turbo that Leslie gave as many insults as he received. He was also a long time member of RWD and I hope he will reappear sometime.

People come and go. Entire groups will shift around to different venues. It is the nature of the internet.

Les is fine. He has a new daughter and life is filled with more than the board right now.

Yes, probably.

I could, but I won't.  Our private e-mails are not something I would divulge on-line.  If the intent was to learn if he's OK, then I assure you he's fine.

Leslie is a really bright, great guy who does not pull punches.  He calls a spade a spade, has rare insight and gift for the written language.  It is quite clear why he has not been posting lately if you read his last two posts:

"Dan,

This is not OK.  It is not just Kevin.  Maxx did this too.  I have knowledge of a lot of "stories"  Do you mind if I post them too?  As a trip report without the open permission of the people involved?  Is this the standard you want to set for RWD??  Not even Spencer (the former owner of RWG) stooped this low.

My respect for you just hiy an all time low..."

"Dan,

I want you to clarify the board policy on posting stories in the trip report section.

In the past this section was for guys to post their own stories and pictures.

It was sort of an "unwritten rule" or customary practice.  Lately we have had people publish the stories of other people on this board.  The real people involved never identified themselves on these threads.  Indeed they may not even be members of this board.

I find this development disturbing.  Third person reportage is normally the province of the tabloids.  There is no way we can "help" or question the guy involved.  Indeed any sort of biased bullsh*t can be reported.

Kevin (who owns the KhersonGirls agency) is currently posting a "story" about one of his clients in the trip report section.  I am not stupid enough to think that Kevin would post a "story" which reflected badly on his business. PERIOD.  Now Kevin has told me not to read or post further comments on his thread.

I am happy if Kevin posts this material in his own section of the board but not in trip reports.

IMHO the Trip Reports section should be reserved for guys telling their own stories."

Leslie did not like guys writing second hand trip reports.  An agency owner was writing a second hand trip report which made matters worse.  I do not like second hand trip reports.

I suppose Leslie got a little fed up with things for now.  That saddens me.  I sincerely hope he returns because this or any discussion board he participates in is better with him than without him.

Notably, you only excerpted Les' comments sans context and replies.

You also don't have benefit of the PM's exchanged.

Yes, Leslie get a little hot - and I got just as hot back (in PM). It goes with the territory of having people with a lot of experience and strong opinions. But we also resolved our disagreement (also in PM).

I suspect Leslie appreciates the interest shown to his absence - and I further suspect that someone(s) will let him know his presence at RWD is missed. He may stop in to say 'Hi' - or he may choose to not.

As I stated upthread, the nature of the net - specially the boards - is that people come and go. Even old-timers grow weary of the forums after a time. Some become honored curmudgeons - some leave - some stay purely to be entertained - and a few continue to give of themselves. We are sincerely privileged at RWD to enjoy the company of those veterans who continue to share what they have learned - for the benefit of those who come after.

IMO this would be a pretty dull place if we had only two options, offer our opinions or tell our stories. People are tired of hearing mine so I am really in a fix. Perhaps I should offer my opinion on how to find a good RW? or give marital advice? or tell cute stories about my ex? Opps, can't do the latter and who would listen to the other?

People just get wore out with it all and want to do other things.

 Take care Leslie.

I suspect there are other issues Leslie's dealing with than spending time with the family. Some people are more sensitive and have a lower tolerance towards others. He's announced a swan song before based on a few women he didn't think should be posting here.

After seeing what Dan posted, I have to comment. After hearing the issues that happen behind the scene, I wouldn't want the hassle of being a moderator, or owner of a forum. Many headaches with people constantly compaining or demanding to be pleased the way they see fit. I have over 1800 posts in RW forums and though some people have been insulted more than I, nobody has been the recipient of the nastiest and threatening posts and PM's than me. I've never went and PM'd a moderator, administrator, or owner to complain about anybody and try to get them banned. As I grow older and more mature, my feelings don't get hurt as easy and I have a higher tolerance for those that I perceive have some growing up to do.

İ have not left RWD because of a disagreement with Dan.  İ am not miffed with anyone. İ have lost my enthusiasm to post here or on any other RW forum.  Maybe this feeling ıs temporary.  İt ıs no bıg deal...

Nearly all the long time married guys stop posting.  I was an exception but as Conner and Maxx correctly defıned İ am tired of thıs.  I will not be posting on a regular basis but will pop ın from time to time.

Actually I was'nt wondering what happened to "Leslie"......although "Hi Leslie"......if you see this post. I was looking for another "character"............."jb". I talked to his wife "I" a few weeks ago........for ONE HOUR!!!!! She had just returned from her trip to Moscow. Now I know why he does'nt have the time to return my call.........2800+ posts here on the RWD........sheeesh!!!!

Leslie.....yes....I too became bored.....on the RWG. I just posted there about two weeks ago.....after a seven month absence. "Bean" just posted there today and mentioned that many of the "geezers" could be found on the RWD.

Just keeping busy. The wife and I just celebrated our three year wedding anniversary last month..............how time flies.

Good Luck to everyone !

Thanks, Les. Nice to hear from you. I'll be taking the same approach as you when we settle down for good and start having children.
You are a wise man to focus on your family.

Thanks for all your helpful advice in the past, and best wishes to you guys.
