American Style Dancing in Odessa
« on: March 15, 2005, 05:19:04 PM »
If anyone in the Odessa area is interested in learning American style dancing, there are a couple of instructors living in Odessa trying to find students and a place to teach.  I do a very good Latin Hustle that I choreographed myself with the help of a Patrick Swayze video.  My e-mail is:  pec_111@yahoo.com.  Odessa phone:  80974970515.  If you want to see this type of dancing, go to Evening Odessa night club on Friday or Saturday and you will see me or Antonio dancing there with a blonde named Olga.

Is there Lindy Hop in Odessa?

That is my kind of dancing and Balboa, West Coast Swing and St Louis Shag.

I know there is a Kiev Swing Dance Society but the dances are always when I'm not in town.

Hi,

Guess I'm one of the few people in Ukraine who knows how the "Lindy Hop" dance got its name.  But, no one here does it to my knowledge.

I've found the problem with structured step dances is that there is usually not enough room on club dance floors to do that kind of dancing.  So, my partner and I do our own thing which is a crowd pleaser.  Many girls me to teach them "Swayze dancing" as they call it.

Antonio is a die hard West Coast Swing dancer who teaches it but, he can't find people here interested in learning because it seems to be so boring. When my partner and I do our dancing with lots of spinning, twirling, and dipping, that's what  most people want to do.  Same in American clubs where I've danced.

Are you in Odessa?

Sorry for not responding sooner.

No, I am in the states not in Odessa.

I was hoping to find a dance in Kiev the first time I was there but I arrived at the wrong time. There were only one or two dances a month at that time. I think the scene has grown since November of 2003.

Dancing is a great way to communicate and you need not be able to speak Russian or Ukrainian to communicate in this way.

Dancing in Ukraine-- or the lack of social, partner dancing.  Fewer people dance together in Ukraine than in the United States.  How distressing and frustrating!  Perhaps too many men get too drunk to partner dance, and the women give up and decide to enjoy the music on their own.

Short anecdote. I remember my last trip to Ukraine.  I watched this women admiringly stare at someone while she was dancing alone.  Curiosity got the best of me, so I had to see who the lucky guy was.  At whom was she looking?  At herself!  She looking at a wall mirror and watching herself dance.  How illuminating!

I see partner dancing as a non-verbal conversation between a man and a woman.  The man advances and proposes a "move" (non-verbally, of course), and the woman follows and makes it look so very graceful.  Dancing solo on the other hand reminds me of one-way communication.  Screaming.

I really love partner dancing with an appropriately height-matched partner.  My favorites are East-coast, lindy hop, latin, and some ballroom.  My problem is my height--188 cm.  It is difficult to dance with women shorter than 174 cm.

Does anyone know of decent partner dancing in DNK, Zaporozhe, or Krivoy Rog?  I would like to get to Odessa, but I lack the time.  I plan to travel to Ukraine in June.  My last week will be in Kiev, and I know a few places there.

A beautiful woman is pleasant to look at, but it is easier to live with a pleasant acting one.
