JFK Expert?
« on: October 13, 2006, 09:56:45 AM »
I read some talk here in another post about getting from the international terminal in JFK to the domestic terminal without going through security again.  I am returning from Russia (Aeroflot) and have a tight connection with Delta.  Is there an easy way to get to check in without going through all the security checks again?

Good luck with that issue, Resqu.  I think the answer is "NO," but we will await the responses for others.

I have connected to JFK many times, and have NEVER succeeded in staying inside security.  It's a real bummer to have to take their stupid little train to and from the international terminal.

My wife flew through there a couple of weeks ago, and even messed up finding the train.  She took a taxi from terminal 3 to terminal 9 and really pissed off the driver, who did not want to accept her since the wait to pick up fares is so long!

Anyway, here's a link to a map for JFK.  Maybe you can see some secret tunnel that I'm missing  :)

BTW-- you might consider changing the name of the subject from JFK Expert?  to "JFK Airport Expert?)  I did not read it for most of the day, thinking it was another Kennedy conspiracy theory discussion :-)

Thanks for the link Darth.  Hmmm didn't think of the conspiracy theory issue ;D  Maybe I should try to change that!

RESQU, here's yet another link that very clearly outlines
your challenge: getting from Terminal One (Aeroflot) to
Terminal Three (Delta).

http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/jtframe.htm

I don't see how you'll avoid the security check at JFK
with the terminal switch you've got to make. We passed
through Terminal One last June - I found the security check
to be swift and thorough, and I noticed the system was
sensitive to travelers who were making tight connections.
But you'll be checking into Three - and I haven't tried that
one in several years...

Great link Vaughn!

Yes last time I went through JFK the lines were not bad, although my bag was the VERY last off the plane.  I think maybe it was because I checked in as early as possible to get the exit row seat and mine was one of the first put on the plane.  May have to re-think that one this time because my connection is tighter.  If I remember correctly its straight through to that elevator up to the 2nd floor for the Sky-train deal.  I had hoped that there was a back corridor to travel on foot between concourse to keep screened passengers separated, but too logical.  I appreciate everyones help, I will let you know how it all ends up.

Without looking at the map, I seem to recall that Aeroflot is terminal 4 and Delta is 2 & 3.   You can go from 2 to 3 without going through security but to get to 4 you will get there fastest going out and taking the sky train.  There is no way to get there without going through Security.

Yes Turbo now I am confused and can't remember which terminal I came into in June on Aeroflot.  I thought it was 1, I screwed up and took the sky train going the wrong way and ended up going all the way around the airport circle.  If I would have just looked at the map it was only one or two stops in the other direction.  Either way I guess I will have to go through all the security again.  I return on Nov 21.  Where are you going to visit in Russia next?

I cheated and looked and you are right, Aeroflot is termianal 1.  Here is a link to the official JFK web site.  http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/jfkframe.HTM

Yes, you have to go outside to get to Terminal 2/3

I go back to Russia on Tuesday.   I am going to Barnaul, Etkatrinberg and for one day to Moscow and will have a short trip this time of about 12 days.

You will have to go out and back through security.
Every single time I have gone through JFK, I have wandered around terminal 3 trying to find the check in. It is easy to get on the train, it is easy for me to navigate the other terminals, but I always get turned around trying to get into #3 ???

Terminal 3 and terminal 2 are connected by a walkway.  If you can get through security into either one you can go back and forth withhout going through security again.   Go up past the international gates which are 14 & 15 and make a left at the end to get to terminal 2.  To get from 2 to 3 go up the stairs and the walkway is there.   You can also follow the signs to the gates you need which will take you through the walkway.

The trip next month will probably be on Delta --JFK-->Kiev; so hopefully it won't be a problem.
