word meaning
« on: October 19, 2006, 02:20:09 PM »
Many russian women describe themselves as "serious" as part of their profile.  I know it is used differently than what we consider to be but can anyone explain it more as to meaning?   -jj

"Serious" is often associated with "attitude/s" in their profile self-descriptions, or in the qualities desired for their perspective partners
(see the Russglish Glossary here at http://russianwomendiscussion.com/wiki/index.php?Russglish%20Glossary).
I think it should be interpreted as "not-joking", "not-here-for-a-lark" ;).

'serious" means at least in theory, that they want to get married and have a family, no penpals, no bullshit, if you want to marry me and are a real man, here i am. in other words "dont waste my time".

how else would you consider it? good luck, something tells me that if you have to ask this question, you'll need it.

While both the meanings above could have some meaning, my guess would be to translate it as 'down-to-earth'.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

Knowing what I know about Russian women, I tend to agree that chivo has the meat of it correct.  Nothing is more important to a Russian woman than her family.  I've very often seen RWs simply decide; "it's time to get married and have my family", and the next reasonably qualified male to happen along is the lucky winner.  Once a Russian girl has made the decision to marry, she will probably be hitched within the year.  If she says she's *serious*, she probably means it.

Unless of course she is a scammer. The she is serious about taking your money. :)

They do have different meanings for some words.

For instance, the FSU women use the word 'adventure.'

But they aren't the least bit thinking about hiking up a mountain or white water rafting.

Sometimes they will be more direct and say 'adventure of the a$$.'
