Mother-In-Law Just Left After a Month Long Visit
« on: November 13, 2006, 01:44:34 PM »
Ok as the topic reads, my wife's mother just spent October with us. She speaks no english and has never been abroad. Overall the trip went very well. Katerina was happy to see her mom and happy to put her to work immediately cooking and cleaning.  :D

Katerina and I both work all day and Katerina goes to school Monday, Tuesday and Wed night so mother-in-law was basically trapped in the house all day...but somehow she found plenty to do, including weeding the flower beds and straightning up the garage. :D

Her main observations of the United States ( Memphis ) was first...how good the roads are. Loved the roads. How friendly everyone is, especially the service people...i.e.. waiters and sales clerks. The mall was her favorite place. Go figure. She also liked Fed Ex Forum...we took her to a Pre-Season NBA game between Memphis Grizzlies and someone. She really enjoyed that. Not many people can say they enjoy Pre-Season NBA!

Anyway I have never had a mother in law before, so in my opinion not so bad. We will have her back within the year probably.

Oh having Russian tv thru Direct TV is also a plus when trapped at home all day apparently.

Sounds good Brad,

Did you MIL have any problems obtaining a visa? What's your wife studying?

Hey Billy.

No...she didn't seem to have any problems getting the visa. We sent a letter of invitation...affidavit of support...IRS fillings and what not. She brought proof of owning a flat and having a bank account and pictures of her husband she has to come back to. LOL  So..there weren't any problems.

Katerina is taking English Comp. 1 and Biology 1 at the moment. Next semester it's English Comp 2...Biology 2 and Microbiology 1. This is all in preparation to possibly apply for Pharmacy school. U of Tenn. actually gave her credit for the vast majority of classes she took in Russia. For some reason though, she didn't have any Biology classes having been a Chemical Engineer major.

When are you getting married Billy and when is your fiancee coming to America? I have found no real updates or plans regarding this and I have been watching for them.  :D

There seems to be some problem with what the Uzbek government requires for an American and one of their citizens to get married but if they get it sorted out by January, then I'll get married in Uzbekistan. But just in case, I'm filing a k-1 now.

One month is a walk in the park.

Try 3 or 6 months like I've done and are currently doing. My M-I-L has been here twice before for 3 months. She makes more money helping my wife in her shop in a week than she does in 2 months and she's a school teacher in Ukraine. We just had a baby so she's here for 6 months now. I've been married 3 years and I'm still in competition with my M-I-L. I moved her baby girl 6000 miles from that village, that flat. Marriage is absolutely wonderful, but M-I-L sometimes wears a little thin. I figure its a small price because she raised a wonderful daughter.

That's why I get along so well with my MIL.  I'm her favorite son in law.  Easy to do when you're 4500+ miles away...   ;D

I love my MIL-
but 6 months of living with her and i would be completey looney, or  probably be somewhere else ;)
great lady, but a with a rampant cleaning fetish that would make a sterile operating room seem a true pigsty.really.
i'm not a messy person at all,!!!!!!!
but we are diffinantly not even 2 months worth of  compatible..umm more likely 2 weeks tops  lol

Sadly, I no longer have a M-I-L (we really did get along fantasticly) but I can sympathize from the perspective of when Lil's Grandmother was here for 3 months  :-X
We had both hoped for  at least one night out on the town while she watched little Kolya, but not a chance in hell - she was permanently attached to my wife's right hip for 12 weeks straight...

Hey there Brad!!,

It sounds like you MIL had the same experiences as Arina's sister here in Canada.  BTW, where the heck have you been, how come you never call anymore?? :'(

Let's try and touch base this week

Here is a picture of Katerina and her mom taken at Fed Ex Forum before a Memphis Grizzlies basketball game. Her mom was very impressed with the Forum and the basketball game. Finally someone who appreciates NBA basketball!!  hah!
