AJ and Mir, you guys have a good point about making generalizations. I realize now that one should not make generalizations based only on personal experiences, I quite possibly  could have been in the wrong place to judge russian women. Who knows? It's pretty cool that we have a medium such as this forum to learn from others experiences as well. It's all good.

Wild orchid,

I thought you were a young woman not influenced by Soviet schooling.

And what sort of schooling influenced you?
Only 2 points? I've heard recently that USA was involved in war conflicts in 70 countries around the world.
Obviously you don't want to remember Korea or Afganistan or any others...

Neither is Korea.

After the Great Patriotic War (WW II), the Soviets occupied North Korea from 1945-1948.  North Korea remained a Soviet satellite into the 1950s and transitioned to an autonomous state by the early 1960s.

The Soviets not only supported North Korea's invasion of South Korea, Soviet military fought against the UN in the "police"action to defend South Korea.

"The [Soviet] 64th Fighter Aviation Corps was sent to fight in Korea in Nov 1950. They performed very well, shooting down over 1,300 UN aircraft of all types while losing only 345 of their own. 16 Soviet pilots made ace, with the top scorer being Evgeni Pepelyaev with 23 kills."

About the 70 conflicts:  please do some research instead of quoting anti-American table talk at a bar in Sydney.

Wild Orchid,
I have spent a lot of time with Russian people in Russia, to include one ex-KGB staffer.  I like Russian people - even wish to marry one and embrace her Russian spirit.  However, the Soviet system in my opinion was rotten and did more harm than good to the Russians and even more to many bordering states.

Yes, there were big cracks in the much lauded Soviet education system.

How could it be quality when they wrote their own version of history?

Sure, all history is told from the perspective of the nation that writes it.  But the Soviets went to the extreme, hiding info they did not want their people to know about.

My girl just saw the Tom Hanks WWII movie, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.  With tears in her eyes, she told me "I did not know the Americans were involved in World War II."

p.s.  The Chinese are still up to that trick of sharing only selected history.  Do you think the poeple know about Tinamin Square?  Even there Google is edited so it hides info the Chinese do not want their people to know.

Please don't judge the way history was taught in SU just by your girlfriend's educational level...
WWII was one of the major compulsory topics at High School history lessons. So, anyone who scored higher than 3 (on a 1to 5 scale) in History at school during SU times is perfectly aware of how and when the US was involved in WWII.

So, please try not to generalize from your personal very specific experience..
