Hello
« on: December 08, 2006, 06:07:27 PM »
As I have been reading off and on this site I decided to register. My name is Charles, 36, and have been to FSU one time in Azerbaijan in August of 2006. Planning to go back in April 2007 to meet the second young lady (29) I met when the first lady (25) I went to meet didn't work out. The good thing is for me on the second young lady I met her in person and then began writing versus the other way around first time.  I do plan on posting my trip report from Baku in the trip report section as well.

Anyone with experience dating Muslim women (even if not devote) as far as culture and expectations is appreciated. I have done a lot of reading on other info about that, of course, the thing is if she was devout she wouldn't even consider being with a non-Muslim man, so most of the negative aspects aren't there. Azerbaijan is more like Egypt, and is one of the "democratic" Muslim countries. (more like eggplant republic as an Azeri told me while I was there, as eggplant is their national dish and in reference to banana republics of yore).

Welcome and I look forward to your TR.  I am writing this from Egypt and was in Azarbaijan last May. I can't say the two countries are very similar except in being frienly. There are lots of beautiful women in Azerbaijan and I wish you luck. I was really impressed with that city.

I guess I wasn't clear on what I meant, but not necessarily cultural and people wise, but their "democracy" point, meaning they are nominally democratic and not ruled by I think it is shia law, the Muslim law like say Iran is.  Being Muslim can run the gamut from being more conservative (read fanatical from the western viewpoint) to moderate, to practically non-existent, as in they are born Muslim but practice little of their faith. The girl I've met is more toward the moderate side to even consider a serious relationship with a non-Muslim, as that would not fly in more devote circles.

The different religions aspect

Welcome to the forum. I read a lot more than I post for many reasons (people often make the point before I try to) and this might be a good topic for a separate thread. I personally would only pursue a Christian woman (I am talking about myself not what you should do), for a number of reasons.

First is because there are so many challenges already. A new country, a new language, a new culture, a new husband and a
new religion in the mix is a lot.

Secondly is what happens when you raise children. Dad says Jesus is divine and the son of God.....Mom says Jesus is a great prophet. The children are likely to be confused

Thirdly How are the in laws going to see this union?

Fourth (is fourthly a word?) as people get older sometimes they want to get more in touch with God. It would be difficult to do this with different faiths and good
cause a huge strain later on.

Again I am talking about myself not what you should do. It is obviously something to discuss in detail between you and your lady. I wish you luck and success.

Fourthly is a word by the way I just checked, I simply have never used it.

" Fourthly "  a word  that if is  used   so many times  will  be placed in the dictionary   at some point making it a word.
I mean , just make up a word and if it is published  some where  several times , it becomes a word in the dictionary   which  is where we might pick  it up at and use .
Something like that

I've no time to make this make sense  ;D

I admire your tenacity in this endeavor. I think to believe that if one looks at the common experiences amongst all men in this world, we can see past the superficialities.
