Possibilities of identity theft?
« on: January 03, 2007, 05:15:30 PM »
Hi everyone, I was writing this girl back and forth, and I met her on ElenasModels.  (In fact, she is a Confirmed Profile there).  She seemed pretty interested, and she asked for my mailing address so she could send me a Christmas card.  Since it was all she was asking for, I emailed it to her.  Since then, I have not heard from her since.

Call me paranoid, but I was wondering if the possiblity of someone harvesting postal mail addresses.  But could she steal my identity with that?  All she has is my name and postal address, she has no other information about me and she certainly does not have personal data like date of birth, mother's maiden name, etc...  So is there a possiblity of someone stealing my identity with this information?  Or did she just lose interest for one reason or another?

If someone could steal your identity with your address they could get rich with a phone book.  They really need at least your social security number or something more than an address.

As Durk said, postal service can be very slow from the FSU.  It is also possible your reaction to her request turned her off.   You did not seem comfortable with sharing that info and she may have picked that up and thought you were reacting badly to her plan to make your holdiays a little special.  (Just a possibilty, only you know how you reacted but it seemed to worry you.)

I wouldn't be so worried...

It's a postal address...  I don't think she can do a lot of damage with it other than write you letters and make you lose perspective before you meet.

Be VERY concerned if you give out a bulk of information like Social Security Number, copies of ID like passports and licenses, credit card numbers, etc... but of course you wouldn't do that!  ;D

I wouldn't get too upset. As stated above, the postal system here leaves much to be desired. I recieved a letter from my mother last week, the funny part is, it left Canada in November 2005!!! :hairraising: :hairraising: :noidea:
