Hello everyone. My name's Eric and I travel for a living. I work for a cruise line so I'm constantly on the road. I have a lot of friends who are from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and I've even traveled to St. Petersburg a couple times. The reason I'm here is because I'm looking for my second half. I've been trying to do research on agencies and trying to find the best route to find my mate. My friends on ships have told me about agencies to stay away from but none of them really knew of any good ones. So, I guess my question is, does anyone know of any non-scammer agencies out there? I know that sounds pretty vague, but I hope it makes sense. Also, if anyone has a question for me, I'm always up for discussions.

Eric,

Welcome to RWD... Your poll is a little confusing because it asks a question and gives possible answers which are two more questions so you might want to have a look at that and edit when you get a chance.

On the subject of agencies... if you search the threads in here you'll find HEAPS of info about different agencies. Some men have good experiences, some have bad. It's important (I think) that you find a service that suits your needs. Also, before choosing an agency it's also a good idea to have a think about the process you'd like to following.

There's a lot of conjecture about all of the following because some present a higher risk than others. Personally I think it depends on what you're comfortable with and your time/financial constraints. Just some of the options are:

- Write One/Visit One
- Write Many/Visit Many
- Write None/Visit Many
- Tours
- Get a Guide and have him/her help you (Some are members here)
- Be a member of RWD, ask intelligent questions, show your good character and wait for members to offer to introduce you to their wives friends, etc ;-)

You'll find a number of members here that are agency owners (Rvrwnd for one) and it might be worthwhile reading their previous posts and see if you agree with their approach.

I've gotta say though... if I had friends in FSU I'd be letting them know I was serious about finding a partner and then heading to their towns for a holiday. You might just meet someone in a more conventional manner.

Finally, I think the most valuable thing you could do is to be an active member here. READ as much as you can (Especially the trip reports) because there's a fountain of knowledge within. Once you have dispelled any of the myths you might have read about you'll be ready for an enjoyable and productive search.

Particularly keep an eye out for the posts from guys like KenC, jb, LEGAL, Vaughn, AJ, JET and others. They've successfully married.

Others like Turboguy, Gator and I/O have tremendous experience travelling through FSU.

Also, read and learn from some other members who've made mistakes. Mistakes on this journey are costly and heartbreaking.

Oh, read the 10 Commandments and NEVER forget them. There's only one thing you can trust on this journey and it's those 10 little beauties!

I've never used Richards agency nor do I have financial, personal or social interest in his prosperity... but I've read his posts and everything I've seen seems balanced and logical. (But I think he's got a tendency to speak his mind about other agencies at times)

I'm not a bad guy, I just don't believe in pussy footin' around & hiding the facts. I call a spade a spade & if your a big boy you can handle it, if not better find a gentler sandbox to play in, cause this one gets rough at times, LOL. Guess its this Russian lifestyle I'm livin' LOL.

You probably should define your hunting grounds before you ask for a suggestion of a good agency. Are you thinking more about Ukraine, Russia? Big city, small city. If you marry a gal is she ever going to see you with your work?

For some reason I think you would be a good match for a gal I met in Ukraine. I may pm you with her e-mail sometime if I can still find it.

Sorry for the poll. My body usually functions pretty well at 2am but last night I was a little off. All fixed now.
I got a little scammed at confidential connections, so I'm not pretty happy but at least I didn't get too involved.

Yes, looking in Ukraine. Have been to Kiev & Odessa and really liked the atmosphere there. The reason I'm starting to look now is because I'm moving "back to land" into our corporate offices in Miami and my traveling is going from 99% to 25% (which I'm looking forward to).

NOT!

Do some homework and you will be ok. The agency I used was reliable and honest. I suggest you do find your own translator and write your letters without the agency intervention. I was told this and it worked for me.

Richard is one of the good guys so i would recommend you contact him. I don't think he was in the biz yet when I first started out.

Just got my hair cut by a beautiful 34 year old form Kherson, Ukraine. She met her husband via an agency there. Been married 7 years now; says she has a great man and she is VERY happy.

Agencies do work, and there are some good ones out there. CC is not one of them, but if you PM me I'll tell you another one that is honest in good old Kharkov....

There is a forgotten gem of information available to you here at RWD. One of our senior members here (jb) compiled an RWD FAQ section that lays out a great deal of information for a newbie. It is found under the main menu section in the upper left hand corner of this page. I highly recommend it be read by anyone attempting this process.
