If I remember correctly, I read in one of the forums here (or somewhere) that "The Bat" is listed there to keep you aware that this person is a scammer.

If you do a search of the client and it comes back with "The Bat" then you should stay away. Scam Alert.

Send a PM to one of the admins here and they can help you out, but I'm pretty sure that is what it means.

Cheers,
Fes

Ridiculous. The Bat is not an email client for scammers. It's just an email client commonly used in Russia and that's all. Many Russians use The Bat from home (which is why many scammers, who work from home also use this client). Some internet cafes also have The Bat installed.

My girlfriend used The Bat from home, and I used it when I stayed with her. Neither of are scammers. :D

Your suspicions were aroused because these women writing you first is probably too good to be true. Too good to be true always is just that.

No need to feel paranoid unless you have a strong urge to send money and you don't want it to get in the wrong hands. You need not focus your time and energy on two women you're uncomfortable about, there are over 30,000 women at bride.ru

I am not a admin but...

You are partially right... not about scammer but spammer...

A number of Internet service providers, sites and organisations are claiming that The Bat! is a spamming tool and, on that basis, are blocking messages containing "The Bat!" in an x-mailer header.

Many spam messages have the X-Mailer header field set to The Bat!, but this because it is one of the default settings in the Advanced Mass Sender program, which is frequently used for sending spam mail.

There may be about 30 messages with forged "X-Mailer: The Bat!" headers per 1000 spam messages. Some Internet service providers, being unaware of this, are setting traffic filters that block messages containing "X-Mailer: The Bat!". This forces legitimate users to configure The Bat! to not include X-Mailer field into the messages that they send.

SpamAssassin can detect many instances of forged "X-Mailer: The Bat!" headers by looking at other parts of the message, for example html body, message-id, charset and boundary information. Here is a link to a file containing the rules to detect forged The Bat! messages ( and other mail client ) :

Paranoid !!! The Bat is a shareware program from Moldova... it mean a free trial of 30 days before you register and pay... Version 1.62 and below run very good on old machine with windows 95-98... last version is 3.95.06, ready for Vista...

Better check the IP from the e-mail... if both have the same IP, a lot of chance that it is coming from a agency... check the origine of the IP too... If it is not from the regio of  Yoshkar-Ola, it is probably a scam... but having several e-mail account is usual for a lot of people... a first one for initial contact and junk... a second one more personal... can add one more at work too !!!

Danke Bruno!!!

I knew that I read something about "The Bat" somewhere.

Vallum,

There are a couple people on here who run agencies and can help you out with finding a good one.
Plus, just continue to "read, read, read". You'll find one that you like, they are out there.

Cheers,
Fes

The Bat! is one of the most popular mail clients in CIS and i thought it is popular even abroad. It blocks most of viruses wich different "Outlooks" tend to open and activate, it has perfect interface (multilanguage, btw). As for paying for it, some people use pirate software and don't pay. Some people use it just during the testing period, which is free.
