Checklist...of sorts
« on: January 17, 2007, 05:05:30 AM »
Hi, dont let the subject fool you.

I wonder, is there a check list that potential grooms could consider, and perhaps even for more seasoned veterans with regards to finding, courting, and maintaining a FSU bride.

I come from the school of thought that, we need to read the driving manual before we drive a car, we get a learners permit etc. But any idiot can go out and get married without a clue of what they're doing.

Perhaps if some sort of criteria was, or could be suggested for those in differing stages of the relationship, it may help ease the transitions, and also iron out some of the wrinkles.

I hope from the world of experience here, a good compound of knowledge could be condensed here.

Keep in mind, this is for the "finding", "courting" and "maintaining" a FSU bride.

Look forward to your replies

Hey Icarus,

This site is probably the best manual you can find to get your FSUW Learners Permit. There have been several discussions regarding checklists so do some searching and reading, ask questions along the way and you will find folks here to be quite helpful.

And I believe that you learn to drive by driving.  So my advice is to get on the plane and go.  Sure, read the 10 commandments here and get the advice that is repeated over and over again by vets here....but don't study to long.

Just do it....Go!

Icarus,
There is a forgotten gem of information available to you here at RWD.  One of our senior members here (jb) compiled an RWD FAQ section that lays out a great deal of information for a newbie.  It is found under the main menu section in the upper left hand corner of this page.  I highly recommend it be read by anyone attempting this process.  Also don't forget the Ten Commandments with it's link at the top of the page.  Good luck to you and welcome.

I have a question I would like to ask the seasoned members here.

I plan to visit Barcelona June/July for work etc, and if possible meet a fe w RW; i only have limited time there.

My plan is to commence writing to a few RW/UW maybe 6 weeks before going over and if things develop filter the bad and meet the good. But I would also like the backup plan of using a "ground zero" agency while Im there.

What do you think of this approach?

I read alot about acronyms :) WOVO, WFVF, WFVO and so on.

In sticking with city geography, can anyone recommend a good agency in Kiev, and Volgagrad or Vladisvostock?

Thanks

The wiki is a great reference for a lot of things including acronyms.

Re: your approach, I'd say that was a good plan to get started with. Others will have to chime in about the agencies in that area.

WMVF is one way to start but hard to pull off with much tact/sincerity but if you are just testing the waters, so to speak, it could be a plan.  WOVO is pretty risky if you have no backup plan. WMVF is probably the safest way to go.

As far as cities for a "short" visit Vlad is a long and difficult trip but relatively untapped resourse. Volograd is easier to get to but you will need a visa. Kyiv is the easiest to get to and no visa is required.

Rags Actually we Aussies do still need a visa for Ukriane so it makes it much of a muchness with Russia for us.  My guess is Icarus is thinking Vladivostock because it is a simple "Out Route" for us and home via Japan, China or Korea.  For an Aussie who wants to ge ta quick look around, his plan is not bad, but I think it would be a pitty to miss Moscow or St Pete being so close.  It's a bit like comming to Aus and not seeing Sydney.  Just sort of rounds up the trip so to say.

I/O you are correct. I forgot to stand on my head before I replied. In that case Vladivostok would be my first chioce as I have always been interested in the Kamchatka Peninsula.

No need to stand on your head mate.  The forces of gravity do a great job here also. ;D At least contrary to some North Americans, you acknowledge the earth is spherical.  Some I have spoken to seem to think it is flat, that is, when you walk of the edge of the USA you will fall into some endless abyss. :o :o Mind you, there can be a touch of that in Russia at times also. ;)

Anyway, someone has to sit down here at the bottom and catch you guys when you fall off your perches.  Oopps that might be getting a tad political. ;)

Vladivostock is not quite as simple as it looks from here, but it is not a bad out gate so to say if one is travelling across Russia.  From here, by far the simplest in and out gate is Novosibirisk for many reasons.  It is relatively quick and easy to get to.  Good, simple little international status airport with the domestic only about 100 yards walk and flights available here there and everywhere everyday.

Connecting from Novosibirsk to Moscow or St Pete is quick and simple and from there you can do the Ukraine thing or whatever else you choose.  The only drawback is if leaving and returning to Russia, you need the multi entry visa and they usually ask a few questions at the embassy here as to why. No big problem, but something to be aware of.
