Suggestion 1 : Turn it around. You are sending her a lot of mails already. Get her address and buy a card.
Suggestion 2 : Do not confuse the women by sending them graveyard flowers. If you want to get away from the roses send flower bulbs. She can let them grow like your relationship. They might be dead after one week.  ;D
Suggestion 3 : Exotic dinners... why not get her favorite type of food. If she is with you in a foreign country take the trouble to dig up some food from her country of origin. No matter what she will always love the taste of home.
If she is not with you do the opposite. Show her some of your national culture.
Suggestion 4 : No matter what you will never do it right. After all you are a man. Buy her something sexy and she will complain it is not comfortable. Buy her something normal and she will ask you if you think her body is out of shape. Never even think of answering that one....

Now for the next suggestion...
Suggestion 5: Forget about Valentines day. If she gives you 'that' look and asks you if you forgot something tell her Valentines day is for commerce and trying to impress women. As the two of you are together forever every day is special for you.
No it is not a dog. Its really how I look.  ;)

March 8th is the day you need to pay attention to. Feb. 14 is some stupid Amerikanski stuff.

Simply be original... she will like it... what about a postcard where you can record a personal message... best, try to make it in russian language...

Not only American... Europe too... and it seem that Ukrainian ( FSU ) girl enjoy now the two occassion... but really, why wait a special date for surprise your girlfriend... send her something when she is not waiting it... she will enjoy it and reward you with her hapiness... if she receive something for the 14 Feb or 8 March, she will be like million of other ladies... receving something because of the tradition... if she receive something tomorrow ( not  a special day ), she will feel herself special and you will make her happy...

Some flower for a marriage birthday have a enough low effect... some flower buy after your work, during a usual day, will give her a lot of pleasure... it show< that she is important for you at any time and not only when "tradition" impose it ...

Valentine's Day is becoming big in the FSU too, not just an American holiday, but yeah Women's Day is more recognized. If you ignore the woman you love on Feb. 14 you are going to hear about it, or worse yet get the silent treatment.  :(

Yeah... you know it ...

Valentine of Rome (Valentinus presb. m. Romae): a priest in Rome who suffered martyrdom about AD 269 and was buried on the Via Flaminia. His relics are at the Church of Saint Praxed in Rome.

And if we see the orthodox calender, they have two "Valentine" saint at  the 14 Feb:

Quote
- Valentine  Feb 14
+ 269. A priest and doctor in Rome martyred probably under Claudius the Goth and buried on the Flaminian Way. In 350 a church was built over his tomb.
- Valentine Feb 14
+ c 269. A Bishop of Terni in Italy martyred under Claudius the Goth.

But what about the 7 Jan, 2 May, 7 July, 2 sept, etc... All are Valentine in the orthodox church !!!

In Orthodox Russia the day of love is the Day of Saint Peter and Saint Fevroneya - July 8.
Their marriage is a ideal model of Orthodox marriage.
The sick prince of Murom Peter had a dream - only Fevroneya, daughter of  bee-keeper from village Laskovaya that was near Ryazan, could treat him for an illness.
Fevroneya became a wife of Peter. But the nobility of Murom did not want to take the marriage of prince and peasant woman.
Peter and Fevroneya said: "God united us and people never can separate us" and they  left Murom.
The intestine wars between nobility  began in Murom. The prince Peter and his wife were called for help.
Not long before Peter and Favroneya's death they took monastic vows and got new names - David and Efrosineya.
They died together in one day, as they were praying God ( in 1228).
They bequeathed to be buried together but monkhood was against their wish. The monkhood left their body for night before burial in different Church's. But on next day bodies of Peter and Fevroneya were together in one church. The monks took that occurrence as sign of God and buried
Peter and Fevroneya together in one grave. To date the relics of  Saint Peter and Saint Fevroneya are in the Troitsky cathedral. People, who wants to save their marriage come to  relics and pray.

Wow, this is interesting, my name is David and my ex wife's real name is Efrosine (but uses her middle name), she is an AW of Greek descent which is also the Orthodox religion.

We should have gone to those relics and prayed, but I don't think anything would have saved our marriage.  That's really weird about the names though. spooky  :o

I'm not offended. I just try to comprehend the secrets of English grammar  :)
I'm glad you had a little fun  :)
Would you be so kind as to write the right variant next to your smile  ;D.
Thank you so much. :)

Olga, I'm not sure what the right variant is in this situation. But I do know that 'intestine' is part of the internal organs of the human & animal body alike. It could be that your variant is correct but to me it struck a funny cord & didn't seem to fit in this instance, as the story was about to lovers. I would need more information before I could deffinitly say what the correct word should be. Actually my thought was Byzantine War but that was in Italy during the Roman Empire so had nothing to do with Russia I don't think, so I am at aloss as to what it should be.
Just for future reference 'intestine' is, I will refer to the dictinary version, you will then see the humor in it yourself I think:
intestine, muscular hoselike portion of the gastrointestinal tract extending from the lower end of the stomach (pylorus) to the anal opening. In humans this fairly narrow (about 1 in./2.5 cm) tubelike structure winds compactly back and forth within the abdominal cavity for about 23 ft (7 m), and is known as the small intestine. It is not only an organ of digestion (for that part of the process not completed by the stomach) but is the chief organ of absorption. By contraction of its muscular walls (peristalsis) the food mass is propelled onward and, as it is carried along, it is subject to the digestive action of the secretions of the intestinal lining as well as to that of bile and pancreatic juice which enter the upper intestine (duodenum) from ducts leading from the liver and pancreas. Innumerable minute projections (villi) in the intestinal mucous lining absorb the altered food for distribution by the blood and lymphatic systems to the rest of the body. Food continues to pass into the middle (jejunum) and end (ileum) of the small intestines. The small intestine joins the large intestine (colon) at the cecum in the right lower abdominal cavity. Here, also, is the appendix, a blind pouch projecting from the cecum. The large intestine is wider in diameter. Its direction as it leaves the cecum is upward (ascending colon), across the abdominal cavity (transverse colon) beneath the stomach, and then downward (descending colon) on the left side of the abdominal cavity, making a sharp turn in the left lower portion (sigmoid) to merge with the rectum. In all, the large intestine is about 5 ft (1.5 m) long. Bacteria, the indigestible residue of food, and mucus form the bulk of matter in the large intestine. The water content of the bulk is absorbed through the walls of the large intestine, and the solid matter is excreted through the rectum.

Thank you again :)
When I can not find a word in my dictionary I use internet dictionary.
I wanted to translate from Russian into English the word - межусобные and internet dictionary presented me the word - intestine. I just checked it. It is really funny.
But Russian nobility - boyars liked to bleed each other and  tear intestines  fighting for  prince  title  ;D
I'm with mistake of dictionary a little right too ;D

Rvrwind  There are some very adoring little mistakes and I would not trade these moments for anything in the world. Like you I love my Olechka very much. Other funny times are when we are with close friends having dinner, most of our friends are professionals and have seen a dramatic change in Olgas speaking, but from time to time a word just comes out of no where and the expressions  are priceless.(I will add they all love and care for Olga very much)

I believe the word Olga meant to use is "internecine."
City girl (US) meets small town guy (Belarus). After four years in an international long-distance relationship, they marry in his hometown and she moves there to live with him. Yes, we live in a sit-com. Without subtitles.

Межусобные = междоусобные. How I could not guess about it?!  :)

Olga.
