Documents a fiance' will need to bring with her to USA.
« on: April 06, 2005, 04:19:23 AM »
My fiance' has had her K-1 visa approved and now has a visa, however during her interview she was told that she needs to get an additional document I believe from a police department which states she has permission to leave the country does anyone know what this may be?

Can anyone clarify precisely what documents a fiance' should bring with her to the USA for any dealings with the government primarily in regards to the change of status process and eventually citizenship. Do these documents need to be originals or can they be copied?

Sincerely,

David C.

All my wife had to bring into the USA was a sealed packet which I believe had her vaccination record and chest xray.  Is your fiance coming from Ukraine or Russia?  It makes sense for her to have originals and copies.  It is best to give a copy whenever possible.

David,

I've never heard of this document as a requirement for leaving Russia.  She should have had the police report with her at the time of the interview as it's a requirement for a visa.  She will also have the "big brown envelope" to bring with her for the immigrations officials at the POE.  All her immigration documents, like medical exam results and immunization records, and a copy of the police report should be in that envelope.  Are you sure you have it straight?

As far as I know the airlines will not be asking for this piece of paper at boarding time. But if there is something missing when she arrives in the USA she could be refused entry.  I'll wager she needs to get the police report and return to the Embassy so that it can be included in the Immigration Package.

You should get clarification on this before you buy the airline ticket.

My fiance' is from uzbekistan and she has her police report along with a fiance' visa. She went through the interview and received the visa last week. However she was told that she needed an additional document from I believe the police department which grants her permission to leave the country. I have never heard of such a thing and am trying to figure out exactly what it is.

Perhaps she is required to have exit visa stamped in her passport from her government. Technically it is required for Ukrainians too when leaving country, but really is not followed. I have heard that sometimes there are problems when returning back to home country for visit, and then trying to leave again. Exit visa solves that problem.

In Ukraine, it takes about 3 months to process exit visa, as they have to send passport to government agency. That is why most do not get stamped. One they get K1 visa, they have only 6 months to travel, and they don't want to risk not getting passport back with exit stamp before K 1 expires.

Well in Russia such permission is demanded if somebody knows too many secrets of state :D (that depends on where you worked resently)
