This thing with flowers...
« on: February 09, 2007, 04:34:49 AM »
Today something made me ponder the old custom of sending flowers of a particular color to signify your thoughts, intentions, etc. For example red roses mean beginning of passion and yellow carnations are the end of it. Is this custom taken seriously in Russia now?
You will know that which you have been searching for when you find it.

Not a dozen...

Two things to remember when you send flowers to the fsu...

1~Don't send yellow roses to your gf.  Yellow is to say good bye!

2~Red flowers means love...tender.  But remember, 12 is a bad number...send 5 or 7 or  9 or 11 or 15.   Odd numbers...but like in the USA, stay away from 13.

Yes, having been figuratively kicked in the gonads today confirms that feeling...

Yellow roses are not sign of funerals or break-ups  :)

In Japan yellow colour is colour of sun and presenting yellow roses you wish the well and light.

According to  flora language the yellow roses are sign of friendship, wealth and happiness.  :) All educated women know about it  :)

Yellow roses = break-ups is an old  banal  meaning.

Victorian language of flowers :
http://www.apocalypse.org/pub/u/hilda/flang.html

Amethyst, Meadow lychnis, Moss rosebud
You're so clever! I have to admit - I love you.
Betony, Marjoram, Southernwood, Spiderwort
???? I'm surprised, and very embarrassed. I was only joking. I like you, but don't love you.
Vine, Great Bindweed, Almond (Common), Mimosa
You were drunk and misled me, and that was very thoughtless of you. I can't handle such behavior.
Humble Plant, Clotbur, Henbane, Bee Ophrys, Hazel
I'm miserable to think that I was such an oaf. But nobody's perfect. Please forgive me.
Yellow Tulip, Cloves, Fir, Swallow-wort.
Love you though I may, I can keep my act together, and time will heal my sorrow.
Volkamenia, Flos Adonis, Acalia
May you be happy. I'll remember this and try not to get so foolishly drunk in the future.
Arbor Vitae, Hyacinth, Convolvulus Major
I will always be your friend, and share good times with you. I no longer harbor any hope for more.

Bruno,

You should add that to the wiki. I've seen the question multiple times over the years and that's a great list.

I love you too Sandro... ;D

Just trying to help out the scullery maid by suggesting people start to add things to the wiki. Next time I'll just call for the maid to take care of it.  ::)

Ken

P. S. I do want to say "Thank you" for the extra effort you go to keeping the wiki additions going.

Bruno's flower list is very nice.  But I have a much simpler method/suggestion.

Buy whatever flowers appeals to you and that you think will appeal to a particular woman.  Then present them to her with appropriate words as to why they appealed to you and why you think they are appropriate to her.

If she seems disappointed because of some 'rules' then she is probably not the woman for you.

I try to be kind and thoughtful, but the idea of following rules takes all the romance and individuality out of the equation.
I am a sex tourist who is driven by the hunt with no emotion or empathy and suffer from Satyriasis, Don Juan Syndrome and Madonna-Whore complex (but on alternating days) with confidence issues and many other issues. I suffer loneliness with no family, friends or money.  I have ED and orgasm problems
