Alarm man off to Dnepropetrovsk
« on: March 01, 2007, 02:52:26 PM »
Well here it goes, D-1, just to recap I'm an Englishman living in the South of France, I'm 4? years old but apparently look 38.  I am not ugly and in my previous relationships tend to walk into a room with if not the most beautiful girl in the room (normal), one of the top five.  I am looking to find a lady to create a new life with, not a cyber relationship, not a holiday romance.

I'm going to dnepro, as I've been writing to several ladies there, and in nearby Zaporozhye.  I have used Cindys agency for contacts with the ladies, and to arrange initial meetings.  I asked for the meetings Tuesday evening following confirmation calls with the ladies.  It is now Thursday night and no confirmation and I am travelling 18+ hours tomorrow (and I only live 2000 kms away!)  Let’s hope this gets resolved.

I will be visiting 2 Ladies.

Ms T. no English but wow, to sum up:

For - she is extremely beautiful, when talking to her (via terp) I could hear her laughing and she seemed VERY happy to hear that I am coming.

Against - 29 and visited Egypt twice, and a couple of European countries currently a student.... Also has a child but not a big deal for me.  She also seems to think I am coming out to only see her, a point I have chosen not to correct.

Ms O.  She speaks English and French (I'm English living in France for 20 years and intending to stay). Huge plus. She is gorgeous

For - Languages, and lots of things that have come out in her letters

Against - She was upset that I was coming without checking the dates with her (- I had in letters but had no response to that part of the letter).  In general she semed quite agressive, and wary of me, She asked for a recent photo, despite my having sent photo's taken in November.  All this could be down to the agency, or her having been badly burnt before.

My plan see Ms O. first clear the air, if it doesn't work well either I screwed up or the agency did.  I just hope it is not a problem for Ms O.  Then see Ms T.  After that it gets complicated, and I'll have a decsion to make fast!  If neither work out there is Ms V in Zaporozhye, and half a dozen 20 something’s that have written to me :)

Plan C involves leaving the area and maybe trying elsewhere or I may even decide this is not for me and just visit the country.  I really believe until you get your feet wet (or cold in this case) you can't have too many expectations and should be ready to adapt.

Kuno, thanks for your brilliant trip report, I think mine will be very different, the writing certainly won't be of the same standard, and I am expecting a very different trip.

Any way gentlemen your help and insites during the trip will be appreciated.  I have always kept a written journal, of my trips, I am intending to transcribe and post regularly.

Andy

Why is that an "against?" Many Ukrainian people vacation at all-inclusive Egyptian resorts (and Ukrainians like to point out that foolish Russians vacation in Crimea and pay the same price while enduring shabby service).

Actually, I'd put this down as a big positive. First, she obviously wants to take time off to be with you as much as possible, and the fact that she cares about your appearance is a big plus, also--girls who would like to use you as a mule could care less if you're butt-ugly.

Good luck in Dnepr, I look forward to reading about your experiences!

Alarm_man, welcome!

I particularly like the description of yourself and what you are seeking - very candid and honest.  Please be generous in your descriptions .. the good and the bad.

Good luck,

Alarm it's still going to be very cold.  If you have to resort to plan C or D this won't help.

Not sure what your plan B is, C does not look to promising and my take on plan A is you have about a 15% chance of a finding your dream bride. I'd get started on plan D at this time and try to find another 15 to 20 ladies who you are attracted to in Dnp, Zap and Krivoy Rog.  Keep these ladies name, ID number and agency they are part of with you and if you have to go to plan D you have saved a full day on the process by calling these agencies and asking about the ladies who interest you.  If you can take a couple extra profile copies of your profile and photo so you can give to these agencies should you have to resort to plans C or D as I suspect.

Psssst.., the advice you get from Jack is equal to about 10 other experienced vets.

He is the guy to know in case things go weird - especially in the area you are going. FYI

Andy I hope you have a wonderful time and the best of luck to you.

Why is it that everyone always says that I'm X years old but look X younger than that? What is up with this? Compared to what? Well, I'm 45 and I am sure that I look 45 but I'll say that I look 33 just to be part of the "young" crowd. Not picking on you Andy but this statement and the consistency with which it is used is truly ridiculous.

Oh boy,

Thanks for the comments this is what is great about this forum, there is me assuming that multiple foreign holidays means one thing and a very good explanation is put down for why.  Your advice is taken on-board Groove.

Jack 15% is fine with me, my goal is to get a break, and understand the process.  My tickets cost less than $200, so its easy and cheap for me to come back when and if I decide this is the way to go.  If it works great, if it doesn't sightseeing is not a bad way to relax, and as I'm taking the laptop if I decide that the ladies are truly irresistible, it shouldn't take too long to prepare the info.  Then again there goes my sleep on the plane :)

Re Ken - I've always been told I look young, it didn't help in my 20's but I'm loving it now :)   I don't want to waste my time if I'm perceived to be out of age group, but if the situation is right it might be fun for both of us.  So I ask when I meet /date - how old do you think I am.....  I couldn't care less, (even given that most people knock off 5+ years from their estimate just to be polite) I am what I am, but I am also trying to paint a picture.

Re Mir and Groove, Ms O. is also 29.  4 hours to pick up; time to get that case packed. The big problem is the Meccanao for Ms T's son, its in a big plastic box, it might wind up getting repacked.

For those wondering, after my earlier posts gifts include, scented candles (with perfumes from the local area - its famous for perfumes), Chocolates from a chocolatire in Cannes, and olive oil from my own trees.  No stuffed Frogs, or bulldogs :)

Ciao,
Andy

Interesting, would you care to share the source with a neighbour ;)?

Had the same problem myself. Interesting how life can turn out to be fair (eventually), wouldn't you say ;D?

Enjoy yourself.

Well its plan A with a rocket, she`s an international model, who earns more than i do :)

The only problem is DNK does not have much to offer so tomorrow I`m heading for Kiev with her.  If anybody can provide contact numbers (Pavel?) for apartments I`d be greatfull.  I`ll post a trip report on my return but just to keep it simple, don`t waste time writing, (a couple of months is good), but get on that plane!

In a country without an ugly tree I find a model.....  I know I`m good but not THAT good!  I could spend 3 months a year here just looking at all the lovelies, but hopefully i won`t have too if this all works. Oh and yes big head is firmly in control!

Thanks for your help and comments one and all.
Andy

Andy,

My suggestion for apartments is the link in RWD

http://www.apartmentres.com/en/apartments/kiev/

There's a huge choice in all price ranges there.

Pavel has ONE good apartment on Mihaylovskaya that he hooked me up with... It was at Number 19.  The apartment he put me in at 24 Mihaylovskaya st wasn't anywhere near as good (but he told me that).

They were both $75 per night which seemed reasonable.

I assume you'll be getting the express train from Dnepr.  It costs around 70 grivna and will get you into Kiev at 12:30pm. DOn't use the toilet at Dnepr Train station... AND DON'T DRINK THE COFFEE.  (By the way they serve coffee, tea and snacks on the train...)

A taxi from the train station to Independence Square (Mihaylovskaya st runs off there) should cost you no more than 25 grivna... 30 if you are dying for a loo and can't wait!  ;-)

Don't eat at O'Briens... Do eat at Shato (on Kreschatyk) and do pop into Arena Entertainment for a drink (The nightclub upstairs should be open by now...  would be sensational I think!)   ;)

Oh, and DO NOT forget flowers on Womens Day for your lady...  If you're staying around Idependence Square you can take a walk down to the metro station at Independence Square to buy flowers early in the morning... Barter with the flower sellers though...  the best way to do this is to start to negotiate a price and then turn to walk away when they don't agree...  hehehehe...  it's a part of the fun!

Pick up some groceris and flowers and cook her a nice breakfast... she won't forget it!

Have fun in Kiev!

Kuna
